This Week’s Theme: Serve the LORD Where You Work
Word for the Week is People of God: Those called out to belong to God and serve him in his world. God called Israel to be his people in the OT, anticipating the calling of the church in the NT.
Memory verse: Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other for there is no other name under heaven given among men in which we shall be saved.
Sermon Passage: 2 Kings 5:15-18
2 Kings 5:15–18 NKJV
And he returned to the man of God, he and all his aides, and came and stood before him; and he said, “Indeed, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel; now therefore, please take a gift from your servant.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, before whom I stand, I will receive nothing.” And he urged him to take it, but he refused. So Naaman said, “Then, if not, please let your servant be given two mule-loads of earth; for your servant will no longer offer either burnt offering or sacrifice to other gods, but to the Lord. Yet in this thing may the Lord pardon your servant: when my master goes into the temple of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow down in the temple of Rimmon—when I bow down in the temple of Rimmon, may the Lord please pardon your servant in this thing.”
INTRODUCTION:
TRANSITION:

I. FROM HIS IGNORANCE OF

A. GOD’S WAYS

Look at
2 Kings 5:1 NKJV
Now Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great and honorable man in the eyes of his master, because by him the Lord had given victory to Syria. He was also a mighty man of valor, but a leper.
He was ignorant that every battle he won as captain of the Syrian army was because God was at work
The Apostle PAUL STATED IT LIKE THIS IN
Acts 17:28 (NKJV)
“for in Him we live and move and have our being,

B. GOD’S WORKS

Look at 2 Kings 5:2 (NKJV)
2 Kings 5:2 NKJV
And the Syrians had gone out on raids, and had brought back captive a young girl from the land of Israel. She waited on Naaman’s wife.
And the Syrians had gone out on raids, and had brought back captive a young girl from the land of Israel. She waited on Naaman’s wife.
Listen to the words of the Israelite girl in 2 Kings 5:3 (NKJV)
2 Kings 5:3 NKJV
Then she said to her mistress, “If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy.”
SHE WITNESSES TO THE POWER GOD THROUGH HIS PROPHET
LOOK AT VERSE 8
LISTEN TO THE WORDS OF ELISHA
2 Kings 5:8 NKJV
So it was, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Please let him come to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.”

HE THOUGHT HE KNEW

INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE NOT BEEN BORN AGAIN OR REGENERATED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD ARE LIVING IN DARKNESS
Ephesians 4:18 NKJV
having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;
TEACHES THAT THEIR UNDERSTANDING IS DARKENED. THEY CANNOT SEE CLEARLY.
having their understanding darkened,
THEY ARE SEPARATED FROM THE LIFE OF GOD
being alienated from the life of God,
DUE TO THEIR IGNORANCE, THEIR LACK OF KNOWING THE TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL.
because of the ignorance that is in them,
THEIR HEARTS ARE BLIND TO THE TRUTH
because of the blindness of their heart;
PAUL STATED IN HIS SECOND LETTER TO THE CORINTHIAN CHURCH
2 Corinthians 4:4 NKJV
whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
THAT THE DEVIL OF god OF THE AGE HAS BLINDED THEIR MIND WHO CANNOT BELIEVE UNLESS THE LIGHT OF THE GOSPEL OF THE GLORY OF CHRIST SHOULD SHINE ON THEM.
IN ORDER TO MOVE FROM IGNORANCE YOU NEED TO BE INFORMED

II. TO BEING INFORMED OF

TO BEING EDUCATED
THE LORD, YAHWEH, WANTS PEOPLE TO KNOW
Exodus 5:2 (NKJV)
And Pharaoh said, “Who [is] the LORD, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, nor will I let Israel go.”
Exodus 6:7 (NKJV)
I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I [am] the LORD your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
Exodus 7:5 (NKJV)
And the Egyptians shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the children of Israel from among them.”
Exodus 7:17 (NKJV)
‘Thus says the LORD: “By this you shall know that I [am] the LORD. Behold, I will strike the waters which [are] in the river with the rod that [is] in my hand, and they shall be turned to blood.
Exodus 8:10 (NKJV)
So he said, “Tomorrow.” And he said, “[Let it be] according to your word, that you may know that [there is] no one like the LORD our God.
Exodus 8:22 (NKJV)
“And in that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, in which My people dwell, that no swarms [of flies] shall be there, in order that you may know that I [am] the LORD in the midst of the land.
Exodus 9:14 (NKJV)
“for at this time I will send all My plagues to your very heart, and on your servants and on your people, that you may know that [there is] none like Me in all the earth.
Exodus 9:29 (NKJV)
So Moses said to him, “As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands to the LORD; the thunder will cease, and there will be no more hail, that you may know that the earth [is] the LORD’s.
Exodus 10:2 (NKJV)
“and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and your son’s son the mighty things I have done in Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them, that you may know that I [am] the LORD.”
Exodus 11:7 (NKJV)
‘But against none of the children of Israel shall a dog move its tongue, against man or beast, that you may know that the LORD does make a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.
Exodus 14:18 (NKJV)
Then the Egyptians shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I have gained honor for Myself over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”
LISTEN TO NAMAAN’S TESTIMONY IN
2 Kings 5:15 NKJV
And he returned to the man of God, he and all his aides, and came and stood before him; and he said, “Indeed, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel; now therefore, please take a gift from your servant.”

A. REAL GOD

NOW I KNOW THAT THERE IS NO GOD IN ALL THE EARTH
But Now I know that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel.
What a remarkable statement!
What so special about this statement!
You would expect someone living in Israel to express these words!
But this man was not an Israelite. He was a Syrian!
RAHAB
Joshua 2:9-11 (NKJV)
9 And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. 10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that [were] on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. 11 And as soon as we had heard [these things], our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he [is] God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
GIBEONITES TO JOSHUA
Joshua 9:9,24 (NKJV)
9 And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of the LORD thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt, 24 And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that the LORD thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you, therefore we were sore afraid of our lives because of you, and have done this thing.
1 Samuel 17:46,47 (NKJV)
46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle [is] the LORD'S, and he will give you into our hands.

B. REAL GOD CANNOT BE BOUGHT

LOOK AT
2 Kings 5:5 NKJV
Then the king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” So he departed and took with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of clothing.

III. TO BEING INSPIRED

BY THE TRUTH
2 Kings 5:17–18 NKJV
So Naaman said, “Then, if not, please let your servant be given two mule-loads of earth; for your servant will no longer offer either burnt offering or sacrifice to other gods, but to the Lord. Yet in this thing may the Lord pardon your servant: when my master goes into the temple of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow down in the temple of Rimmon—when I bow down in the temple of Rimmon, may the Lord please pardon your servant in this thing.”
PROOF OF SALVATION
for your servant will no longer offer either burnt offering or sacrifice to other gods, but to the LORD
I WILL NOT SERVE OR WORSHIP ANY OTHER EXCEPT THE LORD
