Jun 30 - When God Exalts
A man's you may be seated.
Scripture readings from this morning or from 2nd Samuel chapter 5 verses 1 through 5 and 9 through 12 and Mark 10:24 to 45.
hear the word of the Lord
then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said look, we are your bone and flesh. For some time while Saul was King over us it was you who let out Israel and brought it in. The Lord said to you it is you and you shall be Shepherd Of My People Israel. You shall be ruler over Israel. So all the Elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord and they anointed king David King over Israel. David was 30 years old when he began to Reign and he reigned 40 years. At Hebron he reigned over due to seven years and six months and that Jerusalem. He Reign Over All Israel and Judah 33 years. David occupied the stronghold and named it the city of David and David build the city all around from from the the Milo man in words and David became great and greater and greater for the Lord of host was with him. The king of Harem of that of Tire King Hyrum of Tire sent Messengers to David along with cedar trees and carpenters and Masons who built David a house. David them perceive that the Lord had established him King over Israel and that he had exhausted his kingdom for the sake of his people is real.
and then for Mark 10
who Jesus called them and said to them, you know that among the Gentiles Those whom they recognized as the rulers Lord it over them and their great ones are tyrants over them. But it is not so it isn't not so among you instead. Whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant and whoever wishes to be first among you must be slave of all. For the son of man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life a ransom for many. This is a Holy scripture of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.
Over the past few weeks. We've been talking about seeing me as being the prophet and leading into an anointing the king over Israel. And and there was that an issue and in bringing Forstall to be king and saw disobeyed God and God rejected him. And in between in between in the sauce time of rejection, and in his desk, then his descendants. So several of his descendants came to to try to gain power to hold on to that power and there was about seven and a half years of struggle. It was a literal dead. Did the people were consumed by this Civil War among themselves. This is this back-and-forth of the descendants to remember. God had declared to do all that that the Kingdom of Israel would not remain with him. He would not maintain his power even from his descendants. Because of his Disobedience to God, so for those seven years a David was anointed to be king over to do so, so the tribes of Judah in that area, right but yet he has not yet been established as as the king over all the tribes see David it had been anointed three different times and we don't know if the recognizes when do when someone is Anointed for leadership, especially in the people of Israel. God doesn't in in particular ways like like he did with Samuel having Samuel to go to David when he was a young man to anoint him and prophetic form and saying this one is going to be king of Israel. Then again if David was anointed as as king over the tribes of Judah and the end those are great. And those are there is a smaller a tribes of a particular area and they were definitely people who were who were more consistent in their face more established in themselves and in and definitely wanting to leave their lives and in obedience to God's ways and God's commands more than the rest of the tribes. It's so it wasn't until later after the seven and a half years and and this back and forth and and after all those who may might have rised up as Saul's descendants. Are all gone. They are now dead there now gone. I sell it now is the time for David to then rise up and it's stablish himself and all this took a great amount of time. It was a mix-up of David and service to the king of menial tasks playing music for the king, you know taking communication is back and forth may be letters, you know for important people from the King things like that in the medial task. Then there was more meaningful things though. It wasn't just playing music, but it was also setting a an atmosphere and environment of worship. For the king to recognize that is God who leads his people it is God who is to lead? His King is so there were times when Saul would remember When he would remember that he was to be led by God even though that did not take hold for long.
I ain't so do you have these this challenges challenging time? This this this time of of Civil War in and David recognizes the anointing that God had put it on him when he was young and he recognizes the anointing that he has over the tribes of Judah in the responsibilities that he has in these places and it is so he's looking in the expectation for what God will do in the future and what you don't see is you don't see David going out there with the military and and assaulting Saul's descendants. In fact David laments. at the loss of Saw he laments at the loss of souls descendants has as faithful King's under under the leadership of God. He laments this Civil War that is happening over his people. And it's only when this time and come where the people recognize that knows God's anointing is on David to yes be the the king of all of Israel. That's when when David comes. How do you say bushes is a covenant? between him and them

try to Joselyn competes and Outlast each other. This competition is often marked by by ego. bye-bye inciting division
and looking to their own self-interest.
And it can't help but push this into tribal factions that that assault each other in this. sense of of of of single civil anguish between each other
do it in this in this way of making themselves appear better. And in greater in this is the kind of thing that that stalled us trying to prop himself up and make monuments to himself while he is supposed to be worshipping God and sacrificing making sacrifices before God. And looking to God's leading. Brain study looks out into to eliminate the opposition whether that opposition comes from outside his kingdom or within the kingdom. Like saw such leaders their their leadership focuses on gaining and retaining power and self-exaltation.
It looked at themselves. Making themselves look not just confident. But greater than anyone else. Stephen doesn't come in this way get Davidson, said to have her into the people and he doesn't come this way of overbearing this and in trying to Lord it over them and instead he he speaks to them. He has a conversation with them and through that conversation. He makes Covenant with them do we know exactly what's in that Covenant? No, because some of that's lost over time spray some of those agreements maybe David establishes. Then some of your leaders can can be, you know over a particular area of Israel and have authority there in and so then legitimizing them under his kingship and Rule though. They still recognize David's anointing his authority that was given by God. Right David came with his anointing in and establishing this this Covenant with them and it's only after. He makes this Covenant with them that he is done anointed to be king over all Israel. Are these these anointing the three times of anointing? He write the person's anointed by God, the person's anointed by God and forever then shall ring you no Authority then shall have power to do whatever or you know is empowered by the holy spirit in such a manner that they are always to be recognized as someone who is a great man or woman of God. And it's simply untrue.
Even in the times as though of the Old Testament the spirit was put on an individual or a small group of leaders for the time that God needed to lead them through a particular unsettled time a time of conflict.
The god brings them through it in and sometimes it takes many years. Sometimes it takes decades. Sometimes it takes hundreds of years.
But God leads them through it and they recognize the anointing of God on his chosen to lead them through those tasks. But anytime anytime the day or I could come to disobedience.
God's recognize recognition on them God's Authority did they say he has giving them in that position? God can and will and does remove it.
The God chooses to elevate those that he has chosen.
Is it at the whim of God? Yes. It is at the whim of God. Does God randomly choose individuals? No, God does not randomly choose.
Is God is a God who knows the heart knows the depths of every human heart knows the depravity of every man, but knows of the goodness that the character that the life of that person knows that they will recognize when he is instructing them to go to a particular place and a particular way and say a particular thing and they are willing to do it God leads into it and he empowers them through it.
God does. Elevate those he has chosen and again, he takes special the lights in raising up the poor in the humble. So I God goes to David this this this young Shepherd boy this this teenage boys. Is Ben Shepherd of a sheep not people and he annoying some Tuesday that future came and it's only by God's hand and in the end. He leaves David through this journey of of years and years of his life until David starts to see things coming together and he starts to see things at the anointed over the people of Judah his tribe his family.
And it's going through this Civil War in this hard time this place of conflict. God leads him through it. And that's when he establishes Covenant and is Anointed over all the people? Is that regular life of of leading a righteous life under God? It's recognizing God's command and God's word and leading a life through everything God Honors that exalts. He lifts them up and put some in in place of authority because they are exhibiting the characteristics of God.
Yeah, when we come to a place like saw. When we come to a place like like others of his descendants who lives as they chose.
No longer leading the life in the character of God. Why would God want that person to ever continue to lead his people it would make no sense. And it would come to room.
Thankfully Jesus comes in he is this modern this this this model servant. This model servant in in leadership. And it is through David and his lines in his descendants that God establishes himself in the Flash.
in Jesus And we know the story of David and won't come to that point where we get to the story of David. Where where David forgets himself.
Forgets who he is. It is a servant of God forgets God's commands in his words and he he is sitting idle. And allows himself to be distracted by his own. his own failure his own maybe physical draw physical science instead of recognizing the spirit of God alive in him.
but yet David humbled himself even in that time and it's through David in and understanding and recognizing that it's in the repentance in the humility that they came with that before and got even a Before God even addresses you when you had that sense of of of repentance. When you're asking God for forgiveness about this thing. Not waiting until God. Has to point it out to you.
But recognizing that you're you're falling away, you're moving away from God's plan in your life. That's when we find God a new in ice.
Be in today's world God invites us to work and lead in humility and compassion just is priced ID and with a willing heart to serve.
We need leaders who prioritize service and humility and have a sense for others well-being before our own.
To do that we have to leave perfectionism behind. We need to leave perfectionism behind.
Recognizing God's grace for every single one in the very real possibility for an error in failure on our part. And then taking ownership of those things in recognizing. Yes, I was wrong. Yes. I was leading away. Yes, Lord, but help me God. To get back to you. It's recognizing that God's power comes through the grace in the midst of profound Injustice in in in in intractable conflict in and having a self-awareness. For the poor in the marginalized around us an even yes innocence till love. our enemies even while they are still hurting us
summarize in three words It's to put yourself second.
to put yourself second Tonner everyone before yourself to elevate to raise up as God raises us up.
Has Christ raised us up? by putting himself second
thankfully humility is not in the elimination of boldness. Instead bonus is required to act on the anointing of God. And in boldness is required to persevere through the conflict through the challenge to come to a place of change that comes by the holy spirit of God, I think. I really think this is the sense of the kingdom of God.
The guy that exalts those who recognize their need for help. And that God's grace is available to each one. And it's not just given to each one of us to hold onto the grass to turn it into our own possession.
What is the grace of God given to us to extend to all around us? That my friends is gross in the kingdom of God, and that's who God exalts.
But it's ask for God's help.
Holy God.
You alone Lord?
You alone? our Perfection incarnate
You alone Lord are holy and holy good.
You alone Lord? Are the fullness of love?
Lord forgive us when we stray from you. Forgive us when we get lost in ourselves. And try to exalt ourselves before others.
The Lord help us to recognize when we stray from you. And bring us back into your phone. Lord Lift us up in your glorious name. We ask this in Jesus name. I'm in.
