The Holy Place

Notes
Transcript
Exodus 25:23-40 and Exodus 30:1-10 are today’s passage. We are going to be talking about the holy place. A 30 by 15 foot room in the tabernacle. It was the larger of the two rooms of the tabernacle. I had three pieces of furniture in it. I don’t know why the gap in describing the furniture. Some of the reason were that you have to have priests before you could describe the altar of incense another is that you have to have the brazen altar before the golden altar representing the cross before intimacy of prayer.
The Table of Showbread
Exodus 25:23 ““You shall also make a table of acacia wood; two cubits shall be its length, a cubit its width, and a cubit and a half its height.”
The table was 36 inches long, 18 inches wide and 27 inches high it wasn’t a big table by any means.
The Table of Showbread represents Christ’s dual nature.
Exodus 25:24 “And you shall overlay it with pure gold, and make a molding of gold all around.”
The Acacia wood represents his humanity the gold covering represents his Deity, every piece of the furniture was about Jesus!
The Showbread was to always be on the table.
Exodus 25:29–30 “You shall make its dishes, its pans, its pitchers, and its bowls for pouring. You shall make them of pure gold. And you shall set the showbread on the table before Me always.”
There were 12 loaves of unleavened bread on the table.
Leviticus 24:5–7 ““And you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes with it. Two-tenths of an ephah shall be in each cake. You shall set them in two rows, six in a row, on the pure gold table before the Lord. And you shall put pure frankincense on each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, an offering made by fire to the Lord.”
Notice the order to which God gives this, there was one loaf for each of the twelve tribes.
Gold & Frankincense!
Matthew 2:11 “And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”
The Gold we know represents Jesus Diety. The Frankincense was perfume or incense that was a priestly ointment that connected Christ to the Priesthood, he is prophet Priest and King. The Myrrh was an annointing oil for Christ’s death. represented his death. There is some evidence that the unleavened bread was pierced and represented his death.
Fellowship with Jesus is found with gold and frankincense.
Isaiah 60:6 “The multitude of camels shall cover your land, The dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; All those from Sheba shall come; They shall bring gold and incense, And they shall proclaim the praises of the Lord.”
In the millenial kingdom they will be bringing Jesus Gold and frankincense, but not Myrrh they won’t need it. He has already conquered the grave. The table also had a crown of gold around it. Take it for what it is worth but I think that is important.
The Bread was to be placed on the table every Sabbath.
Leviticus 24:8–9 “Every Sabbath he shall set it in order before the Lord continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant. And it shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place; for it is most holy to him from the offerings of the Lord made by fire, by a perpetual statute.””
David not being a priest ate the showbread that was quite the ordeal it led to Saul slaughtering priests. Jesus would one day claim this story as proof that he was the LORD of Sabbath. The disciples were plucking grain and eating it on the Sabbath Jesus claimed a few things. The sabbath was made for man and not man for Sabbath that he was the LORD of Sabbath and that HE, Jesus was greater than the temple a picture of him..
Jesus is the Bread of Life.
John 6:35 “And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”
The Table of Showbread represents God’s provision for our daily needs and communion with God. It is a foreshadowing of the communion that we have with Jesus every month. Do you have a close relationship with Jesus?
The table is a place of honor consider the story of Mephibosheth in the bible who ate at David’s table and the communion of the LORD’s table is fellowship for us.
The Golden Lampstand.
Exodus 25:31 ““You shall also make a lampstand of pure gold; the lampstand shall be of hammered work. Its shaft, its branches, its bowls, its ornamental knobs, and flowers shall be of one piece.”
It weighed about 75 pounds.
The Golden Lampstand had seven branches.
Exodus 25:32 “And six branches shall come out of its sides: three branches of the lampstand out of one side, and three branches of the lampstand out of the other side.”
The lampstands lit the way to the church.
Revelation 1:20 “The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches.”
Do you notice that there are 12 loaves of unleavened bread on the table of showbread, do you think that is on accident? Absolutely not! Do you you notice that there are places for light on the lampstand 6 on each side and one in the middle, do you think that is on accident. God was preparing the world for Revelation. There are no accidents in the tabernacle.
Jesus is the vine and we are the branches.
John 15:5 ““I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”
Jesus is the light of the world.
John 8:12 “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.””
God’s instructions for the tabernacle were specific.
Exodus 25:37–40 “You shall make seven lamps for it, and they shall arrange its lamps so that they give light in front of it. And its wick-trimmers and their trays shall be of pure gold. It shall be made of a talent of pure gold, with all these utensils. And see to it that you make them according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.”
the Bible is specific about the knobs, the bowls that were to be almond shape and directions that the tabernacle was to face. We don’t have time to dive into all of it, but it is very interesting!
The Altar of Incense.
Exodus 30:1 ““You shall make an altar to burn incense on; you shall make it of acacia wood.”
It was 18 inches wide by 18 inches high and 36 inches high. Once again this piece of furniture was wood and covered in gold signifying the dual nature of our Savior. He is both God and man. DUAL Nature interesting word. One of the greatest mysteries in our generation is the dual nature of light it behaves as both a wave and a particle. It blows scientist minds. It is also impossible to know both the position and momentum of an electron at the same time. The very act of observing an electron effects the results of the experiment. Mind blowing, Every time I study these things I say how great is our God! Interesting there is no altar of incense in the millennial kingdom’s temple.
The Altar of Incense was the closest thing to the Mercy Seat.
Exodus 30:5–6 “You shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold. And you shall put it before the veil that is before the ark of the Testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the Testimony, where I will meet with you.”
Exodus 30:9–10 “You shall not offer strange incense on it, or a burnt offering, or a grain offering; nor shall you pour a drink offering on it. And Aaron shall make atonement upon its horns once a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonement; once a year he shall make atonement upon it throughout your generations. It is most holy to the Lord.””
Jesus is the only way to Salvation. (Atonement)
John 14:5–6 “Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
It is interesting that when Jesus told us those words he proclaimed the reasons it was important that He died, one of those reasons was
The power of perpetual prayer.
John 14:12–13 ““Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
The Altar of Incense was to be burning continually.
Exodus 30:7–8 ““Aaron shall burn on it sweet incense every morning; when he tends the lamps, he shall burn incense on it. And when Aaron lights the lamps at twilight, he shall burn incense on it, a perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations.”
Pray without ceasing.
1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
Never stop! don’t give up pray all the time you are God’s child. He wants to hear from you throughout the day all day every day.
How does your life smell?
2 Corinthians 2:15–16 “For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?”
The Golden Altar refers to our intimate relationship with the Savior.
Jesus always makes intercession for us.
Hebrews 7:25 “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”
HE LIVES!
