Psalms 92.1
Psalm 91:2 ESV
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
get everyone excited…
recap
get deeper about time of anxiety as a young man, husband, and youth pastor…
I was battling get deeper and preach
carried that with me…lost confidence and doubted for a long time if i could even hear the voice of God…became depressed and anxious stopped serving in ministry and i remember we were at a church = Jim talking about if you battle depression then you are not a christian…
I was furious…
churches dont talk about MH = its getting better…
Im not a professional = using resources and studying from people who are…Still seek help…
so today and over the next several weeks we will be covering MH
the battle of the mind is a serious battle
time and time again we hear about our mind
scripture love the lord our God with everything including our mind
scripture says to be transformed by the renewing of our mind…
in fact the greek word for repentance used is Metanoia (μετάνοια) which translates to “change ones mind” to have a different mind and attitude toward sin”…
and what is the armor piece for our head or mind?? the helmet of salvation…
preach…
i want to pray again here before going any further because of how important our minds are to us to God and also to the enemy…
i want to pray a scripture verse here today if i may…
lets all stand this morning…
1 thes 5.23-24
1 Thessalonians 5:23–24 ESV
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
pray…
Church shouldn’t talk about MH
Come to J—Fixes everything.
Save you—Redeem you—Fill you w/HG power! All things 4 good—(True very true but Incomplete)
now dont get up and leave, dont get mad at what Im about to say…
Just because Jesus saved you—Doesn’t mean he fixes every area in your life.
Jesus saved me—Woke up abs—Spiritual 6-pack!
Born again—Credit improve—Hair thicker—Thighs thinner.
Just because you’re a Xian—doesnt mean your boss is nicer, your financial situation got way better, work problems stopped, marriage problems ceased etc…
just because you came to Jesus doesnt mean you became mentally healthy..
so…when we talk about mental health what are we talking about??
make clear yet again i am not a professional got my info from people who are…
so what is mental health?? well our mental health includes our Emotional—Psychological—Social well-being.
MH Impacts most areas life → Feel—Think—Act.
Handle stress, relate, make choices, bounce back from difficulties.
And I will go even further and say it impacts our spiritual life…
helmet of salvation…renewing of our mind…
most counselors wont talk about spiritual impact our MH plays unless christian one = important to go to a christian counselor…
now as we've discussed the church doesnt like to talk about MH and when they do there are so many misunderstandings…
So many misunderstandings in church— we will say there are two mental health myths ready for them…
Myth #1—Christians shouldn’t struggle with mental health.
Xian—Shouldn’t battle → Anxiety—Depression—Burnout!
Do—Your fault—Not enough faith—Not praying—Sin!
bothers me…preach
You can love Jesus—Still fight depression.
Faithfully read God’s Word—Battle anxiety.
Attend church: (front/tithe/serve)—Struggle overcome trauma.
Heroes Bible → Elijah so depress wanted die—David—despair. Jeremiah—(weep prop)—loneliness, insecurity—Cursed the day he was born…
Struggling mentally— Xian say, “Ya need more of God.”
Do need more God—More sleep—Better friends—Healthier diet. Dr—Hormone deficiency—Chemical imbalance—Therapy.
and non of this is wrong…
Struggling doesn’t mean you’re not—Good Xian—Means Human.
Myth #2—God doesn’t care about your mental health.
Too busy w/ bigger probs—Not only he cares—A lot—Just look at the Psalms in fact here are a few for you…
The Lord is my light and my salvation—Whom shall I fear?
Lord is close brokenhearted—Saves those who are crushed!
God is our refuge, strength—Ever-present help time trouble.
Lord is my shepherd—Shall not want!
some great Palms to let us know how much he cares yet theres another Psalm…that maybe we wouldnt want on our Mug
Psalm 88 talks about Heman a very respected man who you wanted i your corner or friends group..
Great wisdom (1 Kings 4:31)
Musical ability (1 Chron 6:33, 16:41-42)
Committed parenting (1 Chron 25:5-6)
Service to king (1 Chron 25:6)
and yet…well lets just read bits of Psalm 88
Psalm 88:3–5 ESV
For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol. I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am a man who has no strength, like one set loose among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, like those whom you remember no more, for they are cut off from your hand.
Psalm 88:13–14 ESV
But I, O Lord, cry to you; in the morning my prayer comes before you. O Lord, why do you cast my soul away? Why do you hide your face from me?
Psalm 88:18 ESV
You have caused my beloved and my friend to shun me; my companions have become darkness.
He loved God Served God but was not mentally healthy
God is not afraid of our honesty—Cares—If you hurt—He hurts.
preach on this…
Getting help isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of wisdom.
Physically healthy—Spiritually healthy—Relationally healthy.
Luke 10:27 ESV
And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
Love God w/ heart—Soul—Learn love G mind.
Life is moving in direction strongest thoughts. then are we loving God with our Mind??

2 Peter 1:3 ESV
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
preach on this we talked about this stop focusing on the negative and look at the positive
Instead of … I can’t—Too much—Going to kill me.
God is my source and my strength. I have everything I need to do everything he called me to do.
STAND CONCLUDE…
Next few weeks … Live out the promise of Jesus
John 14:27 ESV
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Jesus said—MY peace give to you—Not “A” Peace—My Peace.
When did he promise HIS peace? (Jn 14) Night b4 Suffering!
