Ps. 63 prayer
Notes
Transcript
I’d like to read Ps. 63 this morning and then spend a few minutes praying though the text.
Psalm 63:1–8 (ESV)
1 O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
2 So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.
3 Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.
4 So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,
6 when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night;
7 for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.
8 My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
Lord, we have grown tired of living in this sin cursed world. We grow tired of living in these sin cursed bodies. We’ve grown tired of our failures. We’ve grown tired of feeling empty and wanting more.
We live in a dry and weary land where there is no water and our souls thirst for a water that can satisfy. We thirst for the living water that you promised that woman at the well.
We’re tired of the fleeting pleasure of sin. We’re tired of the mirage of sin. We want rest. Not just rest for our bodies but rest for our souls. Rest for our mind. Rest from our worries.
We are so week, so insignificant, so unable to be in control and it’s left us tired and thirsty for more.
But we have looked upon you in the sanctuary. We’ve looked at the stars in the sky and beheld your power and your glory. We’ve looked into your Word and read about a Savior that is gentle and kind. We’ve looked to your cross and seen a love that is better than life.
We’ve tasted and seen that you are good. You’ve given us a well of grace that never runs dry. You have been our help in times of trouble.
Because your steadfast love is better than life our lips will praise you this morning.
Help us to live in this way. Set our mind on things above. Keep our eyes fixed on you. Don’t let us turn to the right or the left but keep our eyes on the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
It’s a mind set on you and a heart satisfied in you that breathes life into our weary souls.
In your all satisfying name we pray. Amen.
