As obedient children……be holy, for the Lord is holy.
As obedient children……be holy, for the Lord is holy.
Children will tend to take on the tendencies of their parents, or rebel and take on the opposite tendencies.
When I was a kid and went places with my dad, he was friendly with everyone. He was warm, and that got baked into my personality.
I’m a goofball, and consequently, my kid can be goofballs.
On the opposite side of that, my mom took us to school late almost every day. Mrs. Ellrod, smellrod, fishing rod, knucklerod was the secretary and we had to check in at the office and tell them while we were late. I rebelled against that and now have anxiety about being late.
Peter continues that thought in the rest of chapter 1 of 1 Peter into chapter 2.

17 If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth;
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
20 For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
21 who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart,
23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.
24 For,
“All flesh is like grass,
And all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
And the flower falls off,
25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.”
And this is the word which was preached to you.
1 Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander,
2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,
3 if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.
BIG VERSE
17 If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth;
God is impartial
17 “For the Lord your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God who does not show partiality nor take a bribe.
7 “Now then let the fear of the Lord be upon you; be very careful what you do, for the Lord our God will have no part in unrighteousness or partiality or the taking of a bribe.”
11 For there is no partiality with God.
Judge?
27 “For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds.
12 And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord,
For You recompense a man according to his work.
As a young officer, I saw one of our old school cops constantly get his kid out of trouble. As a consequence , his kid was a human shaped turd. He was arrogant, the rules didn’t apply to him…I’m pretty sure, he finally got into some trouble, his dad couldn’t get him out of.
I didn’t want my kids cursed with my career choice.
If I’m willing to go write other people’s kids tickets for their bad driving, my kids should be treated the same way.
Rule: If you get pulled over, don’t tell them your my kid.
Just because your Father adopted you and has forgiven all your sins, doesn’t mean you get to sin with impunity.
Obey your father and mother.
Obey your father and mother.
5th commandment.
12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.
Consequences of the law.
18 “If any man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or his mother, and when they chastise him, he will not even listen to them,
19 then his father and mother shall seize him, and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gateway of his hometown.
20 “They shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard.’
21 “Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so you shall remove the evil from your midst, and all Israel will hear of it and fear.
This is GOD’s LAW. He wrote it! This is how He expected His people to behave toward their earthly father and mother.
Fear of the Lord
Fear of the Lord
for the unbeliever:
5 “But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him!
Believer:
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Because you are HIS. He promises to never take you to the gate of the city and turn you over to be stoned.
BUT you will be disciplined by the One that created the universe.
12 For whom the Lord loves He reproves,
Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.
The writer of Hebrews expands on this:
6 For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines,
And He scourges every son whom He receives.”
7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?
8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?
10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.
11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.
FEAR His Discipline; during your visit.
Ransom vs Cost
Ransom vs Cost
Cost - refers to the inherent value of an object.
A new HD “Cost” a lot because there is universal or market value.
False teachers will try to tell you that God paid such a great price for you, because you are worth it.
BULL
God ransomed us, not because we are worth it, but because HE loves us that much.

Grow toward the light
Grow toward the light
Plants grow toward the light. Phototropism.
If you have plants in a window sill, you may notice they grow toward the window. If you turn that plant around, within a day or two, you will notice it growing back toward the window.
It doesn’t have a choice. You do.
You can grow toward the artificial light of the world, or the real light, Christ Jesus.
1 Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander,
artificial light.

HONOR YOUR FATHER.
