Proposition: We need to rely on God’s Atonement
Proposition: We need to rely on God’s Atonement
Introduction: Skunk stench sticks with a person. Has anyone ever been sprayed or ran across someone with the stench. It stay with you two to three weeks. It is stuck on you. Fun fact, tomotos will not and cannot help. A chemist has found the antidote: hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, dish soda. Poor it down body. Then you are cleansed. Sin also has a staying power that is much worse. It defiles a person and they wreke of sin. There needs to be a strong solution to wash and remove it. Proposition
Enter God’s Presence with Purity (v. 1-14)
Thes commands seem to be coming in on the same day or very soon after the death of Aaron’s two son’s
Want’s us to remember what happened to Nadab and Abihu
We see fire coming from the Lord to consume them because they brought profane fire in front of the LORD in His presence
Misconception of what the sin was (v. 2), but God always emphasizes the fire
Using it to warn Aaron
Strong warning to Aaron that if he comes at the wrong time He would die, coming in the right manner
Instructions (v. 3-6, 11)
Young Bull for a sin offering (always a bull for the priests), ram as a burnt offering
Has a special garment for the day, white fabric, wash, (no defilement)
He is to take two kid goats as a sin offering, and a ram as a burnt offering
Need to make atonement for yourself (Purity doesn’t come with position)
People strive for position because either thee equate it to godliness or they or they value it more than godliness. Position doesn’t make you sinless or more godly.
Testimony (translated as tablets of the law) remindering of the covenant between God and Israel.
v.7-9 decisions for these goats, two purpose for one offering
Done all these procedures, He still couldn’t stand to be in God’s presence than sprinkle blood seven times on the alter (v. 12-14)
We don’t understand God’s holiness and glory. We blame God for wickedness. I am good enough, (Rom 3:10), defiled and disformed, Given the highest honor.
Sin Needs to be Covered, and Removed by a Substitution (v. 7-9, 15-28)
One is for the LORD and the other for the scapegoat (Azazel) (v. 8, 10, 26)
Scapegoat (title)
