It’s interesting to note that the concept of holiness is not found in the book of Genesis. It is not until the book of Exodus that the concept is introduced.
Exodus 3:5 NKJV
5 Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.”
Moses cannot stand on what is manmade in the midst of the presence of God. Only his feet of flesh, that which God produced, is able to stand on the holy ground.
Exodus 12:16 NKJV
16 On the first day there shall be a holy convocation, and on the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation for you. No manner of work shall be done on them; but that which everyone must eat—that only may be prepared by you.
Holiness is characterized by one particular response. A lack of work. Holiness is not something that can be produced, but rather something that must be lived in.
Exodus 22:31 NKJV
31 “And you shall be holy men to Me: you shall not eat meat torn by beasts in the field; you shall throw it to the dogs.
This is not simply God referring to the holiness of Himself or a place where He dwells. He is calling the men who follow him to a level of holiness!
Exodus 28:2 NKJV
2 And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty.
There is an exterior covering that is conducive to the beauty of holiness and the glory of the Lord.
1 Samuel 21:4 NKJV
4 And the priest answered David and said, “There is no common bread on hand; but there is holy bread, if the young men have at least kept themselves from women.”
There is are benefits to holiness that are only accessible if one is willing to walk in sacrificial purity.
