We live in a vast world and as young people there is much to learn but I would warn you who educates you is of utmost importance

As your teachers and friends are teaching you things you must ask the question: what is their starting point, do they believe in God?

Being engulfed in the Psalms recently, I seem to find this phrase over and over again “teach me”

When Jesus walked the earth he taught all those who would hear and all who heard would say your different than all the other teachers

At 12 they were astonished the words which came out of his mouth! Luke

There was no teacher like Jesus, He was the teachers of teachers

Something that we need to get in our hearts is the cry of the psalmist, more than school, more than YouTube, more than people & friends God teach me!

Lessons from the Psalmists

Holiness/Separation

Psalm 24:4 “He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; Who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, Nor sworn deceitfully.”

Pure motives

Pure intentions

I know you want to sing on the platform but why? Is it a pure intention to please God?

Is your desires pure and godly?

Or is your intake carnal?

What are you watching, what do you entertain when no one is looking?

God will only enter a clean vessel and only a vessel filled with the king of Glory will said before Him in the day of Judgement.

Only a person with clean hands and a pure heart will go to heaven!

Preservation

Psalm 3 “A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son. Lord, How are they increased that trouble me! Many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; My glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, And he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, That have set themselves against me round about. Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: For thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; Thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: Thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.”

God can preserve you

I’m talking to a group that has been through a lot but your biggest struggles are ahead of you.

It’s the hyphen age that most don’t stay in church

But I want to tell you that the Psalms lets me know that God can preserve you in His way

He can preserve through every trial and situation.

Vindication from the Lord

Sometimes we want people to be our vindication. But David lets us know it ought to come from God.

Everyone was against David even his own son Absolom

But God would be for him no matter if everyone else was against him.

Sincere prayers

Read Psalm 94:3–7 “Lord, How long shall the wicked, How long shall the wicked triumph? How long shall they utter and speak hard things? And all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? They break in pieces thy people, O Lord, And afflict thine heritage. They slay the widow and the stranger, And murder the fatherless. Yet they say, The Lord shall not see, Neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.”

You can pray sincere prayers

You can tell God how you really feel…

God doesn’t need a masked version of you

Burying feelings does not make them go away

- Hurt

- Pain

- Bitterness

- Anger

Tell God

He won’t judge, he won’t ignore.

No prayer is a stupid prayer because when you talk to him he can change your heart

Application: How about you he from the great teacher?

- Divide into the word for yourself

These are 3 that God has spoken to me through the Psalms, now my question is what is God wanting to show you when you read scripture.

And if you are reading scripture I want to challenge you to not just read but ask God to reveal Himself to you through scripture.

Prayer is the same prayer that the psalmist did God teach me through your word.
