God is For Me
Then my enemies will turn back
in the day when I call.
This I know, that God is for me. (Ps 56:9).
How many can be excited that God is for you. The Psalmist said 6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?
7 The LORD is on my side as my helper; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me. (Ps 118:6–7).
Knowing God is for you gives you confidence. It alleviates your fears.
Its what Paul said If God is for us, who can be against us? (Ro 8:31).
In this Psalm David expresses in gratitude and confidence God at one of the worst times in his life. David id on the run from Saul. Saul jealousy has caused him to seek to kill David. David the anointed next King of Israel is a fugitive. He arrives in Gath before Achish who servants recognize David. Isn’t this the one who they said. “Is not this David the king of the land? Did they not sing to one another of him in dances, ‘Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his ten thousands’?” (1 Sa 21:11).
David was afraid and pretended to be a mad man. Its this Psalm and Psalm 34 that are tied back to David experience from 1 Samuel 21
Yet the its in this Psalm we get understand David’s confidence in God.
First we must Put Our Trust in God 3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
4 In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me. (Ps 56:3–4).
We must learn to trust God. There will be times in your life that life itself is overwhelming but you must put your trust in God. Lean not to your own understanding but in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path.
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Ps 27:1). “The story tells us that David was afraid in Gath. The psalmist David is also afraid at first (Ps 56:4*), but then overcomes his fear through his trust in God (56:5*, 12*).
I can be facing the most extraordinary circumstances but when I trust God I wont be worried. Trusting God means being confident in Him and His character, and believing that He is in control of everything in your life12. Trusting God goes beyond feelings and requires faith in the Lord and His works12. Trusting God also involves surrendering to Him, running from evil, putting Him first, checking yourself by His word, listening to the Holy Spirit, and resting in His love3.
David had to remember that God had already delivered him from the Lion and the bear. He also allowed him to subdue Goliath. When God has come through for you in the past you know that he can come through for you right now. Even when you cant see it you must have Faith. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.
I know God is able!
Secondly trust is tied to praise! 10 In God, whose word I praise,
in the LORD, whose word I praise
(Ps 56:10).
When you are confident that God will come through for you. When you can truly say Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for thy rod and thy staff the comfort me.
That’s a shouting moment. David said my enemies will turn back in that day when I call. This I know , that God is for me. I God , whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise.
I must perform my vows to God. I will render thank offerings to God. What are thank offerings?
The Bible shows us that servants of God worshiped Him not only with words, but they used their very bodies to demonstrate their devotion to the Lord.
Lifting hands (Psalm 141:2) Let my prayer be counted as incense before you,
and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice!(Ps 141:2).
Clapping hands (Psalm 47:1)
1 Clap your hands, all peoples!
Shout to God with loud songs of joy! (Ps 47:1).
Bowing down and Kneeling (Psalm 95:6)
6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! (Ps 95:6).
Dancing (Psalm 149:3) 3 Let them praise his name with dancing, making melody to him with tambourine and lyre! (Ps 149:3).
So we are to render to the Lord praise! Yes the Bible ask that question. What shall I render to the LORD For all His benefits toward me? I will take up the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of the LORD. I will pay my vows to the LORD Now in the presence of all His people.
Let me remind you what David said in Psalm 34 I will bless the Lord at all times and his praise shall continually be in my mouth! My soul shall make a boast in the Lord and the humble shall hear there of and be glad!
Yes praise is what I do! Praise is what I do when I wan to be close you.
Finally Knowing God is for you will cause you to walk in integrity. 13 For you have delivered my soul from death,
yes, my feet from falling,
that I may walk before God
in the light of life. (Ps 56:13).
Since God has done all that he has done for me. I will walk before God in the light of life. I must live my best life. Must walk before God. He sees everything, he knows everything and I want to please him.
He is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Knowing God has saved me, strengthen me, kept me, comforted me!
I sought the LORD, and he answered me
and delivered me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him are radiant,
and their faces shall never be ashamed.
6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him
and saved him out of all his troubles. (Ps 34:4–6).
You don’t know what he done for me. But can I give you invitation as David did in Psalm 34
8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! (Ps 34:8).
How many can testify the Lord is Good?
