Observations:

I. Naomi’s intentions are good, but her instructions are bad.

She is sending Ruth out into a compromising situation

We can tell its a compromising situation because Boaz feels the need to protect her reputation in v. 14

sends her all dolled up to a male only environment

Tells her to wait until he has ate, drank, and laid down before approaching him

wait for him to tell you what to do

Sending a foreign servant to demand a honorable rich man to “redeem her”

II. Boaz rewards Ruth’s righteousness

kindness

“worthy woman” just like he is a “worthy man”

III. Boaz’ concifdence is found in the LORD

v.13

Application

Personal: In compromising times, continue in righteousness.

Church: In compromising times, we must act righteously

Christian: See Jesus as your redeemer

Isaiah 54:5 “5 For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called.”

Hebrews 2:17 “17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.”
