Matthew 26:28 NKJV
For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Christ is instituting a new covenant which is The Lords Supper.
This new covenant done by the shedding of Christ blood is a way for us to receive salvation.
The hole point of Christ coming to earth is to give all of humanity access to God through the forgiving of sin which is only through Christ shed blood.
Forgiveness is a divine qaulity of God.
Forgiveness takes all the known divine attributes in order to forgive.
Gods justice is in forgiveness Gods mercy is in forgiveness, God judgement is in forgiveness, Gods grace is in forgiveness, Gods goodness is in His forgiveness.
His humility is involved.
His compassion
His omniscience , His omnipotence
It takes all of Gods revealed attributes in order to forgive man.
Sometimes we downplay forgiveness as if its not the most supreme ethic.
Ephesians 1:7 NKJV
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
Matthew 6:12 NKJV
And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
We are most like beasts when we kill. We are most like men when we judge. We are most like God when we forgive.
—William Arthur Ward, Thoughts of a Christian Optimist
William Arthur
Thats because Forgiveness is a supreme ethic
Men doesn’t naturally forgive we are inclined to judge and seek punishment.
Forgiveness hurts actually.
In forgiveness the forgiver pays a consequence.
If someone steals $100 from me and I make the decision to forgave that person. Who is in a lost here? Who is the one who has to suffer because of lost of finances. Its me.
1 Corinthians 6:6–8 NKJV
But brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers! Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated? No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren!
There was lawsuits happening in the church.
Mundane loss is preferable over spiritual loss which these lawsuits produced.
It is better for one to take a superficial lost then a spiritual one.
It is better to monetary lost then a spiritual.
Paul is not discouraging if theres a legal matter and you are looking for justice not to go to authorities.
But these where people who didn’t have care about justice. They just wanted to punish or hurt the church.
They wanted personal gratification at the expense of the church.
Forgiveness is granted before it’s felt
There’s a difference between vengeance and justice
Forgiveness is a process and a promise.
There won’t be a process without the promise first
“Forgiveness flounders when I exclude the perpetrator from the community of humans and myself from the community of sinners.” Tim Keller
Flounders- it is helpless it is of no use.
When you failed to forgive your standards higher than God
Cancel culture and Troll culture. I similar they both want you to apologize in order to get your life back.
Forgiving” is based on the root word for “grace.” It carries the idea of a free forgiveness, perhaps because of grace.
Paul was writing to a Jewish audience, this is a denunciation of gentile immorality.
Romans 1:18 (NKJV)
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
These people suppress the truth of God so it will not have its proper effect in their lives.
When we think about the wrath of God what comes to mind?
- We think about the fall of Adam and Eve. Gen. 3 They now have faced the consequence of there disobedience to Gods command not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
we think about Noah and the Ark.
Genesis 6:5 (NKJV)
Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
- When it says “every intent” means “plan”
Man in these days had a better plans then Gods.
Imagine saying to God Lord I know you have a plan for me but my plan is better.
I know you know all things you have infinite wisdom, your all powerful, all knowing, you know the hearts and minds of every living being. But yet of course I know better.
God made man with a specific purpose and design.
Genesis 2:7 (NKJV)
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
But humanity has taken the capacity that had been given to them and produced evil alone.
of the flood Noah survived with his family that was it, they had to repopulate the whole world.
When we think about the wrath of God what else comes to mind?
- Sodom and Gormorah.
Or God has appointed a day in which He will judge the world. Acts 17:31
Acts 17:31 NKJV
because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”
But this wrath that Paul is speaking about here is different then other wraths.
Three times it was repeated “God gave them over” “Or gave them up”
Romans 1:24 (NKJV)
Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,
Romans 1:26 (NKJV)
For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.
Romans 1:28 (NKJV)
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
This is the beginning of God wrath in the world.
He allows people to get caught in there own traps.
He allows them to be deceived in there own deceitfulness.
This is a judgement of God to let men go there own way.
The condition of these people isn’t complete and utter condemnation. As we can assume.
But it is a lostness.
But they are not out of the realm for them being found by God.
Luke 19:10 NKJV
for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
They are not outside of Gods forgiveness
