Have you ever made plans just to have them completely fall apart?
How about major life plans?
See many times in our lives we see opportunities and want to jump on them, rush it.
We do not want to miss out on something so we rush.
Today more than ever we live in a society that is based on instant rewards
we do not want to wait
Amazon We get our packages in within a couple of days
We can now watch entire seasons of shows in one sitting
if one store does not have something we want, we go to the next
We want what we want and many times when it comes to major decisions we do not seek God in it.
Or we say a quick little prayer like, “God, please let me know if this is what is right” and never look back
This reminds me of a clip from Jurassic Park,
Clip 1, never asked if we should
The scientist were so preoccupied on if the could, they never asked if they should.
What a quote, we can learn so much from this quote
Like an opportunity pops up, like a job, lets say a perfect job for you and it pays really good, we think, “I can do that for sure” and we don’t really seek God and we just jump for it.
BUT what if it’s not what God has for us?
Proverbs 19:21 NIV
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
You know there is a story in the Bible about people making plans and not seeking God’s Will
we find it in Genesis
Genesis 11:1–4 NIV
Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. As people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
You had these people that decided that they wanted to make a name for themselves, you can tell from the text that they did not seek God in this but sought after themselves and their ambition
“Make a Name For Ourselves”
They also were going directly against God
Genesis 9:1 NIV
Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.
and FILL the earth, but that is not what the people build wanted “Otherwise we will be scattered”
If they were seeking God they would have seen that their ways were going against God’s way.
When we are not seeking God in our plans it might seem like everything is going ok.
Clip 2, wonder
So things started out going well for these people , they developed a new tech, there was community, people were working together, they had plans.
Have you ever felt like that? things going great, things seem like they are going amazing.
But you STILL have a feeling like it is not right and you cannot shake it.
That can be annoying that everything can seem right but it does not feel right at the same time.
Then out of nowhere things start to go wrong.
Clip 3, catasourous
We might think we have it all together, but there is always a reason why God does and says.
The people building this tower soon learned their lesson the hard way.
Genesis 11:5–9 NIV
But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
As we looked at a few minutes ago, God gave a command, and the people did not listen, they thought they knew better.
They did not pray about if they should build this tower, they did not seek God in the construction they wanted what they wanted and it did not go according to there plan.
Let’s look at 3 ways we can make sure that we are on the right path.

Spending Time In Prayer

Philippians 4:6 NIV
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
We just ask God.
The trick is not to just say a quick prayer, but really dig into prayer, seeking God’s Will

Does It Line Up With God’s Word

Psalm 119:105 NIV
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
Does what we want to do line up with the Word of God?
If we say, “I want to be a bank robber”
Exodus 20:15 NIV
“You shall not steal.
Well I guess that is out. We have to make sure that we are not going against the Word of God when we are making a decision. like the people were doing while building a tower.

Do You Have a Peace About it?

1 Corinthians 14:33 NIV
For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.
If you have this nagging feeling about what you are doing is not right, the Holy Spirit will convict us, and if we are not listening to Him, a lot of Times God will send someone to tell us.
So today, is there a decision that you are struggle with? if that is you maybe today you need to really start seeking God in that decision.
