Our Deliverer
Our Deliverer
Our God
We are in the middle of a new series on the book of Psalms
The book of psalms expresses worship. Psalms encourages people to worship God for who He is, and what he has done, filled with songs and poetry, but is also a prophetic book.
Today I would like to talk about That “Our God , is a our Deliverer.
Let me begin with this psalm, some scholars believe David wrote it as he was running from Saul others don’t believe he wrote it.
Psa 116:1 I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy.
Psa 116:2 Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
Psa 116:3 The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish.
Psa 116:4 Then I called on the name of the LORD: “O LORD, I pray, deliver my soul!”
Psa 116:5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; our God is merciful.
Psa 116:6 The LORD preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me.
Psa 116:7 Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.
All of us have walk through difficult times and some gone through times like this, only the Lord is able to deliver us.
Let’s Pray
Give us revelation from Heaven
We are about to read an ancient worship song
Psa 42:1 To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah.
Maskil is a wise saying, of the sons of Korah, Korah was from the tribe of Levi, during the days of Moses he and 250 of his buddies rebelled against Moses and God open the ground and swallow all of them, that settle the matter. Numbers 25, His sons survived and became worship leaders
Most scholars believe King David compile this Psalm
1 He satisfies our souls.
1 He satisfies our souls.
As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.
Psa 42:2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
Our Heavenly Father created all of us to have a intimate relationship with Him, we were not created to live independently from God, His desire was to always have us as best friends, someone we can always count on, someone who cares for us.
We will always be thirsty and hungry if our souls are not satisfied by our loving Father.
Is the gate way to all of Our addictions, The things we use to satisfy our hunger and thirst for God will entrap us and destroy us.
Satan the enemy of our souls knows very well what will attract us, he has a long list for some is alcohol or drugs, for others are sexual pleasures, sins, including shopping and working too much, what in our society is something of value, if is replacing your relationship with God is an evil addiction.
Is amazing the core believes people develop to justify their addictions, a man told me that drugs and alcohol gave him the feelings of being free, reminded him of his early years when he was not married and didn’t have children, and had a bunch of women, this lady told me that made her more beautiful smart and fun. What is the believes behind your addictions?
Isa 55:1 “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
Isa 55:2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.
Isa 55:3 Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David.
Isa 55:4 Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples.
Isa 55:5 Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and a nation that did not know you shall run to you, because of the LORD your God, and of the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.
Isa 55:6 “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;
Let your Heavenly Father satisfy your soul so you may live.
Psa 42:3 My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”
Psa 42:4 These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival.
2 He sets us free
2 He sets us free
To be free we need to reach out to God, He has provided all we need if we want to be free we need to reach out to Him. He sent His son Jesus to pay for our sins, to die our death and to give us eternal life.
Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Jas 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Even Knowing God as our Father we will have times of distress and depression, David’s revelation will help us.
Speak to your soul challenge yourself acknowledge what is going on, and speak faith into your soul.
Psa 42:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation
Psa 42:6 and my God. My soul is cast down within me; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.
Psa 42:7 Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your waves have gone over me.
Sometimes we are overwhelmed by our troubles, we are over our heads but remember
If you are reading bible recap with us, this week we read about the prophet Elisha, who asked the Lord for a double portion of the anointing of Elijah who he saw ascending to heaven in a chariot of fire.
Elisha had irritated the Syrian King by telling the king of Israel what he was doing, so he sent this great army after Elisha but in the morning when his servant got up and saw them he was afraid
2Ki 6:16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
2Ki 6:17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
2Ki 6:18 And when the Syrians came down against him, Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, “Please strike this people with blindness.” So he struck them with blindness in accordance with the prayer of Elisha.
We need to keep our eyes on the Lord
3 He is for us
3 He is for us
Psa 42:8 By day the LORD commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
Psa 42:9 I say to God, my rock: “Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”
Psa 42:10 As with a deadly wound in my bones, my adversaries taunt me, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”
Psa 42:11 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
Deu 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.
Deu 6:5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
Deu 6:6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.
Our God, our deliverer
He satisfies our soul
He sets us free from demonic oppression
He loves us ,He is for us
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Joh 3:16
To receive Jesus we need to accept Him as God’s son, repent from our sins and a life of selfishness, and we need to ask Him to be our Lord and savior, not that we deserve it, but is a gift from God.
If this is your desire today, please repeat this prayer after me?
Heavenly Father I’m sinner,
I’m sorry for my sins,
I’m willing to turn away from my sins.
I receive Christ as my savior,
I confess him as Lord
from this moment on
I want to follow and serve him,
in the fellowship of his church,
In Jesus name. Amen!
1Co 11:23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;
1Co 11:24 and when He had given thanks, He broke itand said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
1Co 11:25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."
1Co 11:26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes.
1Co 11:27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks thiscup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
