David anointed King

First over Judah 2 Samuel 2:1-5

Seek the Lord’s Will, and Where
2 Samuel 2:1–4 “It happened after this that David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah?” And the Lord said to him, “Go up.” David said, “Where shall I go up?” And He said, “To Hebron.” So David went up there, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite. And David brought up the men who were with him, every man with his household. So they dwelt in the cities of Hebron. Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, “The men of Jabesh Gilead were the ones who buried Saul.””

Praise in Public, Reprimand in Private 2 Samuel 2:5-7

Always Repay Kindness
2 Samuel 2:5–7 “So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, “You are blessed of the Lord, for you have shown this kindness to your lord, to Saul, and have buried him. And now may the Lord show kindness and truth to you. I also will repay you this kindness, because you have done this thing. Now therefore, let your hands be strengthened, and be valiant; for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.””
It’s only good public relations to be a kind person. Surprise people with kindness for rudeness. Repay evil with good. And repay kindness with thankfulness.

Seven Years of War 2 Samuel 3:1

Nothing Worth Doing Is Easy, and proud men often get in the way
2 Samuel 3:1 “Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. But David grew stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.”
Divisions, Loyalties, Drama, Intrigue.

King over all Israel 2 Samuel 5:1-5

Wait for the Lord
Psalm 27 Priorities always before David’s face
Psalm 37:9 “For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the Lord, They shall inherit the earth.”
Psalm 130:5 “I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope.”
Proverbs 20:22 “Do not say, “I will recompense evil”; Wait for the Lord, and He will save you.”
1 Peter 5:10–11 “But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
2 Samuel 5:1–5 “Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and spoke, saying, “Indeed we are your bone and your flesh. Also, in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the Lord said to you, ‘You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over Israel.’ ” Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel. David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.”

The Sound of the Wind 2 Samuel 5:22-25

2 Samuel 5:22–25 “Then the Philistines went up once again and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. Therefore David inquired of the Lord, and He said, “You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the Lord will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” And David did so, as the Lord commanded him; and he drove back the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer.”
The Fair Wind And The Evil Winds
2 Kings 7:6 “For the Lord had caused the army of the Syrians to hear the noise of chariots and the noise of horses—the noise of a great army; so they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to attack us!”” Advance quickly - תֶּחֱרָֽץ: ḥārûṣ - to do something with enthusiasm, “pay attention!” HALOT

Sound of Marching קוֹל צְעָדָה
This a “good wind” moving the tops of the trees.
Rabbis taught that this sound was the angelic host marching to the battle.
An encouraging sound knowing the Lord is leading with angelic hosts.
The phrase “a fair wind” is used to refer to times of peace, blessing and calm.
John 3:8 “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.””
The phrase “an evil wind” is used to speak of a time of hardship, trouble and turmoil.
John 6:18 “Then the sea arose because a great wind was blowing.”
Acts 27:14 “But not long after, a tempestuous head wind arose, called Euroclydon.”
Satan sends “evil” winds to discourage us.
When David heard the sound in the Mulberry trees he knew God was moving.
