Reflection

Silence
· As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.
[5 seconds of silence]
Opening Prayer
(Monday)
· The heavens were formed and filled by your word, O God. When you spoke the stars shone forth in the night sky. Help us hear your words today – shape our hearts according to your will.

Passage
Today’s passage is from sixth chapter of Matthew’s gospel account:

9 So when you pray, you should pray like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, we pray that your name will always be kept holy.

10 We pray that your kingdom will come. We pray that what you want will be done, here on earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us the food we need for each day.

12 Forgive the sins we have done, just as we have forgiven those who did wrong to us.

13 Do not cause us to be tested; but save us from the Evil One.’

Exhortation
Not too long ago my daughters had some friends over for lunch. Just before they started eating I came to the table to give God thanks for the food and friends at the table. I always start my prayers with Father, or Father in heaven, or Heavenly Father, and one of the young girls who was visiting hung her head and said that they didn't have a father. Oh my heart broke as she said it. But I knew that even in the pain of not having a father around, or not having a good relationship with your father who is around, there is is a Father who loves them more than they could ever imagine. This Father made them. He lovingly picked the color of their eyes, and put dimples in their cheeks when they smile. He knows their every thought, and has a deep desire for them to flourish in his presence. He longs for them to know him and to talk with him.
In our passage today, Jesus is teaching his disciples how to pray. He said, when you pray, pray like this, and the he started his prayer, saying "Our Father who is in heaven." He goes on to say the God's name is holy and marvelous, he asks that God would have his way here on earth. Then Jesus says that we should ask our Father in heaven to provide for us each day, and that we should ask for him to forgive us when we sin, and to help us forgive others when they do wrong to us. And finally he says that we should ask our Father to protect us. Jesus wants his friends to know that they have a great Father who loves them, He's a provider and protector, and he's full of compassion for his children.
Call to Action: Take a few seconds, right now, to quietly reflect on the Father’s love for you and all of his children.

Closing Prayer
Let me pray for us now.
[3 seconds of silence]
Oh great Father in heaven. You know us inside and out. You're love for us is higher than the sky and deeper than the oceans. We rejoice that you call us sons and daughters. Please provide for us and protect us today, Father. We ask this in the name of your Son, and our King, Jesus. Amen.

Outro
