Reflection

Silence
· As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.
[5 seconds of silence]
Opening Prayer
(Friday)
· Loving Lord, we delight in your counsel. Today, help our hearts be glad as we receive your words. (from Psalm 16:7,9)

Passage
Today’s passage is John 3:16, let me read that for us now:
Christian Standard Bible (Chapter 3)
16 For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Exhortation
This verse in John’s gospel is arguably the most famous verse in the whole Bible. Perhaps it’s so famous because it so clearly communicates the love of God and his goal for sending Jesus. Some things in the Bible are difficult to understand, but this verse is pretty simple. God loves us. Just think about that. He loves the whole world. You don’t have to be a king or queen, you don’t need to be rich or famous, you don’t need to cool or fancy. Nope. He loves everyone. But how do we know? How does he show us his love? He loves us in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. Hmm. He gave his Son. God shows us his love by giving us his Son. Do you know who actually said these words? That’s right, Jesus. The Son. God’s one and only Son. Jesus knows the love of the Father, and he knows why he was sent here by the Father. So that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Now, Jesus doesn’t mean that you believe in him like you believe the sky is blue or the grass is green, no it’s a little deeper than that. That’s easy. In the gospels Jesus says that he is bringing God’s heavenly kingdom to this world. The Bible says that Jesus is the King of kings. When you “believe” in Jesus, it means you acknowledge that he is King. And what do you give a king, especially a good king? Allegiance. You obey him. Jesus says that when we do this, when we pledge allegiance to Him, and walk in his ways, we will not perish, but have everlasting life. God loves us, so he sent his Saving Son to rescue us and give us everlasting life in His kingdom!
Call to Action: In response to this good news, let’s take a few seconds, to quietly thank God for loving us, and giving us his Son, the great saving King of the world.
[7 seconds of silence]
Closing Prayer
Let me pray for us.
[3 seconds of silence]
Father, your love for us is impossible to measure. It just goes on forever! We receive that love today. We believe in your Son. We pledge allegiance to our Saving King. Help us, by your Spirit, walk in his ways. Also, would you help us to share this good news of the Saving King with our friends and neighbors today? We ask this in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

Outro

"It's been a joy to be with you." (or something similar)
Tomorrow, we'll be in Colossians 1. Until then, go in peace, and let the word of King Jesus dwell in you richly.
