Reflection

Silence
· As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.
[5 seconds of silence]
Opening Prayer
(Wednesday)
· Gracious God, your word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Today, help us walk with you. (from Psalm 119:105)

Passage
Today I’m going to read John chapter 1 verse 14:
English Standard Version (Chapter 1)
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Exhortation
A long, long time ago, there was an evil king who had captured God’s people and made them slaves. This evil king was the Pharaoh of Egypt. He was like a poisonous serpent. He even wore a big hat that made him look like a snake! But God heard the cries of his people and sent his servant Moses to tell Pharaoh to let His people go. Pharaoh, the serpent king, refused. So, God raised his mighty hand and afflicted Pharaoh and the Egyptians with ten terrible plagues. After this the stubborn, wicked Pharaoh was finally broken, and told Moses to take God’s people out of Egypt. As they left, God appeared as a tall pillar of fire and led the people to Mount SI-NI in the wilderness. He told his people that we would dwell with them. This was wonderful news! Their Saving King would not leave them alone in the wilderness! He told them to build a special tent right in the middle of their camp. This tent was called the tabernacle. At the very end of the book of Exodus, God’s fiery glory fills the tent, and lights up the dark and wild desert. He was their source of light and life.
Fast forward to John chapter 1. We see that Jesus is the Word of God. We see that he is God! He is the creator of all things, and the light and life of mankind. In our verse today John says that the Word became flesh and dwelled with them! John is saying that God became a man! When he says that this Man dwelled with them, he’s saying it was like when God dwelled in the Tabernacle with his people all those years ago! Jesus is the God of creation AND the God of the Exodus! He is the Saving King that rescues his people! He crushes the wicked serpent! When John and the other disciples saw him they saw the glory of God’s own Son! What was he like? Was he mean? Was he stingy and selfish? NO! John says he was FULL of grace and truth! Imagine a patch of dry dusty desert, Jesus is the one who comes with water and seeds, and transforms it into a beautiful lush garden.
Call to Action: Why don’t we take just a moment, a few seconds, right now, to quietly thank God for sending his saving Son.
[7 seconds of silence]
Closing Prayer
Let me pray for us.
[3 seconds of silence]
Father, thank you so much for not leaving us alone to wander this wild world. Thank you for loving us and sending your Son, your only Son, who is full of grace and truth, to save us and dwell with us. We lift up this prayer of gratitude in the glorious name of King Jesus.
