Staying Focused

2 Timothy 2:14 NASB95

Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.

wrangle - μαχη “meche” dispute or argue

Argument over nonsense does no good for anyone.

The main point here is that a good workman cannnot be distracted.

If you had a group of men working for you and you saw them doing everything under the sun except their job would you continue to use them.

Arguing in this context means quarreling and debating in ways that are divisive and raise doubts.

But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness, and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some.

But avoid worldly chatter -wordly is “bebelos” meaning pointless or worthless chatter

diligent-spudazo “be eager to”

to present - we need to understand that God is examining our lives

does not need to be ashamed - when God examines you and ask why dont you know my word you’ve had 35 years will you be ashamed?

accuretly handling the word of the truth - means to literally cut it straight
