Let Holy Spirit lead you.
Let Holy Spirit lead you.
Today, let us delve into the profound promise Jesus gave us in John 14:26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name—that one will teach you all things, and will remind you of everything that I said to you.”
In this verse, Jesus speaks about the Holy Spirit, whom he calls the Advocate. He tells us that the Father will send the Holy Spirit in his name to be with us forever.
1. The Promise of Guidance:Jesus assures us that the Holy Spirit will teach us all things. This promise echoes Isaiah 48:17 , where God says, "I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go." The Holy Spirit guides us in understanding Scripture (John 16:13 “But when he—the Spirit of truth—comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak from himself, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will proclaim to you the things to come.” ), discerning God's will (Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, so that you may approve what is the good and well-pleasing and perfect will of God.” ), and growing deeper in our faith journey (Ephesians 1:17–18 “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him (the eyes of your hearts having been enlightened), so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance among the saints,” ).
2. The Promise of Remembrance:Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will remind us of everything he has said. This is crucial because human memory is fallible, but the Spirit's reminder is perfect. In John 16:13, Jesus says, "He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come." The Holy Spirit brings to our minds the words of Jesus, the promises of God, and the truths of the Gospel exactly when we need them.
3. The Promise of Presence:Furthermore, Jesus assures us that the Holy Spirit will be with us forever.
In Matthew 28:20 “teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the age.”” , Jesus promises, "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
The Holy Spirit's presence is continuous and intimate, dwelling within us (1 Corinthians 6:19 “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” ) and empowering us to live lives that honor God (Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest part of the earth.”).
4. The Promise of Revelation:Through the Holy Spirit, God reveals Himself to us in profound ways. 1 Corinthians 2:10-11 says, "These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God." The Spirit opens our eyes to understand spiritual truths that are beyond human comprehension, revealing the depth of God's love (Romans 5:5 “and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” ),
the beauty of His plan of salvation (Ephesians 1:9–10 “making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he purposed in him, for the administration of the fullness of times, to bring together all things in Christ, the things in the heavens and the things on the earth, in him” ), and the hope we have in Christ (Ephesians 1:18 “(the eyes of your hearts having been enlightened), so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance among the saints,” ).
As we reflect on John 14:26 and these reference verses, let us remember that the Holy Spirit is not just a vague force or an impersonal power. He is the third person of the Trinity, co-equal with the Father and the Son. He is our Comforter, our Teacher, our Guide, and our Advocate.
Let us, therefore, embrace the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Let us invite Him to work in us and through us, to teach us and guide us, and to empower us to live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
May we always be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit, trusting in His wisdom and surrendering to His sanctifying work in our hearts. Let us pray for a deeper awareness of His presence and a greater responsiveness to His guidance in all aspects of our lives.
May God bless you abundantly through the power and presence of His Holy Spirit. Amen
