Title: It wasn’t that important
Story / OR Ice breaker
On being distracted and missing the moment
Genesis 25:29–34 (NLT)
One day when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau arrived home from the wilderness exhausted and hungry. Esau said to Jacob, “I’m starved! Give me some of that red stew!” (This is how Esau got his other name, Edom, which means “red.”)
“All right,” Jacob replied, “but trade me your rights as the firstborn son.”
“Look, I’m dying of starvation!” said Esau. “What good is my birthright to me now?”
But Jacob said, “First you must swear that your birthright is mine.” So Esau swore an oath, thereby selling all his rights as the firstborn to his brother, Jacob.
Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and lentil stew. Esau ate the meal, then got up and left. He showed contempt for his rights as the firstborn.
Point 1 Esau was called to the 1st born
Genesis 25:24-25
24 When her days to give birth were completed, behold, there were twins in her womb. 25 The first came out red, all his body like a hairy cloak, so they called his name Esau
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Ge 25:24–25.
What does it mean to be the 1st born:
You are the leader -3rd parent
You get the majority of the inheritance
You set the example for the rest of the family -matriarch

a divided family...
Romans 8:29 (ESV)
For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
You know what i find Ironic?????

Martha was too easily distracted by less important things.

Martha welcomed Jesus into her home; Began to function
Mary sat at the feet;
While Martha Was busy in her Passion....
Luke 10:38–42 (NLT)
As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”
But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

There was roots of deceit;
craftiness;
He did not care about his brother.
All he Desired was to have his birth Right

C.) God was going to turn this messy situation for his purpose
The Lord turns all things for Good
Romans 8:28 (ESV)

Genesis 25:29–34 (NLT)
