Silence
· As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.

Passage
let’s read and reflect on these words in the gospel according to John, chapter 15, verse 26.
26 “I will send you the Helper3 from the Father. He is the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father. When he comes, he will tell about me.

Exhortation
Shortly before the verse I just read, Jesus gives his disciples a command in verse 17. Here is what he said, “This is my command: Love each other.” Well, now that is a nice command isn’t it. He doesn’t say, this is my command: You 12 take up swords and defeat the entire Roman army. He also doesn’t command them to tear down the great wall of China with their bare hands, or take spray paint and write Jesus loves you all over the pyramids in Egypt. No, he simply says, “Love each other.” Simple right? Well, maybe not so simple. Some people can be hard to love. Some people don’t want you to love them. Some people are just down right mean. Jesus says that the world will sometimes hate his people. They don’t want to hear about Jesus’ love because they love to live in their sin. They think they don’t need Jesus, and they don’t like to see his followers loving each other. Life can sometimes be so hard and unfair. Jesus knows this well. He came to bring God’s love to the world, and he was hated and killed on a cross. After Jesus rose from the dead he told his disciples to love each other, and to take his message of love into a hard and hateful world. Wow, this command isn’t so easy after all. Jesus told his disciples that he was going to sit on the throne of heaven, but that he would not leave them alone. He said that the father would send the Holy Spirit to help his people. The Helper had a message, a message of truth about Jesus and the love that the Father shown the world through him. As followers of King Jesus, we need to obey his command to love each other, and to share the good news of God’s love with the world. But God has sent us a Helper. The Holy Spirit. This is wonderful news. God himself, the creator and king of all things is here with us, helping us to love.
Call to Action: Why don’t you take a moment, right now, to quietly pray for one person in your life that you may need help loving. Is it a brother or sister, a neighbor or a new friend? Say a quick prayer for that person for the next few seconds.

Closing Prayer
Now, I’d like to pray for us.
[3 seconds of silence]
Father, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to help us! Thank you that he has come to help us see the wonder of Jesus and to share it with the world around us. Help us today to love those around us. We ask this in the wonderful name of King Jesus. Amen.
