Read: Hebrews 9:24-28
The word substitution is not a word that you are going to find in your Bible. But it is a principle and a doctrine that the Bible makes clear. We all have suffered from the same issue. Everyone has been born as a sinner. All of us have been condemned to die because of who we are. We have also been condemned because what we have done. Romans 6:23 states that “For the wages of sin is death…” Wages means payment. The payment for the sin we commit is death. Often we have a wrong picture on how sin is dealt with. Sometimes we view our life as a scale. One one side is all the bad, wrong, and sinful things I have down is on this side. All the good, right, and loving things I have down on this side. Some of us think, as long as I am better than so and so I will make it to heaven. But God condemns us for our sins. Well isn’t God a God of love. He is. But God is just. Which means evil will be punished. I was born on death row. I was born condemned because of my identity as a sinner.
