Men Come Forward
A word to guests here with us today.
A word to guests here with us today.
If you have put your faith upon/in Jesus Christ for redemption and your righteousness before God...
We invite you to join with us in participation of the Lord’s Supper.
If you have not, we would ask all who have not believed upon the Lord Jesus Christ...
To withhold from the Lord’s Supper...
So as to not take it in an unworthy manner.
During this time…we would commend to you prayer and asking the Lord to search your heart.
Let’s think about this privilege of the Bride of Christ.
Let’s think about this privilege of the Bride of Christ.
When Christ says this is my body which is given for you.
He is in reality saying that His body is not so much His as it is ours.
Since He received it and suffered it to be broken on the cross…
—> Not for His own sake, but for ours.
He now also desires that we should look upon His body and assume it as our own possession.
So, with His body, He gives Himself to us, and desires that we should take Him.
The fellowship of the Lord’s Supper is a fellowship of giving and taking.
The person giving the gift…gives value to the gift.
The person giving the gift is our Creator…
Who knows exactly what our soul needs.
The giver of this gift is our Redeemer…
He gives to us for our possession what He has purchased for His bride.
And the gift that He gives us is His body and His blood.
He gives us the greatest and best that He can bestow.
His broken body which He offered to His Father as a sacrifice for sin.
A sacrifice that filled His heart with joy.
An offering to the Father that puts away the sin of His bride forever.
He gives that gift to His people.
Why does He give these gifts to His bride?
Because He loves His bride.
He desires to redeem His bride from death.
To replace death with eternal life in Himself.
He gives Himself to be the joy and living power of the our soul.
We are a blessed people to receive such gracious, infinitely valuable gifts from our Savior.
These gifts stemming from an eternal love of the Son for His bride.
We have been blessed with the gift of Christ Himself.
And, so we have our hearts stirred to joy and love for our Savior.
We are told in…
Luke 22:19 (ESV)
19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them,
saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
We are also told…
Luke 22:20 (ESV)
20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood. [Drink it as often as you drink it in remembrance of Me.]
And, then they sang a song.
