King James Version (Mark 10:46-52)
46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. 50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. 52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath mmade thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
Tonight I will be speaking on the topic of “Blind Beggers And Blessed Brothers!”
1. The first thing you see in our text is what we call “The Direction”.
1. The first thing you see in our text is what we call “The Direction”.
Mark 10:46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people,
Whatever direction Jesus goes in if you are in His path you can expect things to happen.
This is proven again and again.
The leper
The lame
The lost
This is why we sing the song we sing.
Everywhere He went
He was doing good
Almighty Healer
He healed the lepers
When the cripples saw Him
they started walking
Everywhere He went my Lord
was doing good
You see it right throughout scripture, you see it in the songs and hymns we sing. You also see it in our text tonight.
You see;
2. The second thing you see in our text is what is know as “The Desperation”.
2. The second thing you see in our text is what is know as “The Desperation”.
King James Version (Mark 10:46)
46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
Bartimaus was in a desperate situation. He was in this situation for quite some time. Quite possibly from birth.
His desperation came forth from his destitution.
Destitute of food, of money, and quite possibly even a real home.
Destitute of friendship and social acceptance.
What a desperate situation.
Did you know that all of humanity is in a desperate situation?
People are blind from birth spiritually speaking.
People are destitute spiritually. You can have all the spiritual devices you want.
This desperation is seen in his actions.
King James Version (Mark 10:46-49)
46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called.
This is because when you realize your condition and you want to get out of it. When you are sick of where you are when athe way comes along to get you out of that desperate situation people will often take it.
You see,
3. The third thing you see in this text is that “The Desperation” turns into what we can call “The Determination”.
3. The third thing you see in this text is that “The Desperation” turns into what we can call “The Determination”.
Once again, when someone gets desperate they often get determined. The actions that flow out of that desperation might not always be good. But there is one thing that is sure. Truly desperate people often take some form of action.
It could be bad actions. Some people get desperate and some desperate people do bad things which only makes things worse. Some desperate people become determined to do something but with the wrong focus.
But then you have those that in realizing their desperation they are determined to make a change and so they take the right actions. They are like Blind Bartimaus.
You see if Bartimaus wanted to get out of the desperate situation he was in he had to be determined to push through some things.
i. Bartimaus had to push past the people that were in the way.
48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
ii. Bartimaus had to push past the perspective that was in the way.
iii. Bartimaus had to push past the position that was in the way.
Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
When you have sat a certain way for so long it can be hard to get out of it. Ever get yourself in a certain position and stay there for a long time and go to get out of it.
This position involved casting aside some garments.
I’ll tell you the best thing I ever did do.
Some people try so hard to cast off the garments before they come to Jesus but Bartimaus cast off the garment as He came to Jesus!
This is not a fix yourself Gospel. We have to get this right.
Notice something Jesus called to Him.
49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. 50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
Jesus calls out to every person He calls through all the voices of other people.
Jesus calls to every person He calls through all the perspective of other people.
Jesus calls to every person He calls to you in the position you might find yourself in.
If you are desperate and you have determination you can answer the masters call. You can break through it because there is enough power in His call! You can do it! He wouldnt call you to do something you couldnt do! You can rise up! You can take the step!
And then the next thing comes.
4. The fourth thing you see in this text is “The Declaration”.
4. The fourth thing you see in this text is “The Declaration”.
He changed his position, his posture, He rose and cast off his garment and came to Jesus and then He began to declare. Declare what you might ask?
i. Despite it all he declared what he wanted.
50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
iii. Despite it all he declared what Jesus could do for him.
ii. Despite it all he declared who Jesus was.
47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
Only God can forgive sins.
I need healing but healing is only going to come if you show me mercy because i don’t deserve it! I deserve to be cast aside because i am unworthy so Son of David...
You see declaration is so important even in the Scripture. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth you will be saved.
This leads us right into the next thing.
5. The fifth thing you see in our text is “The Demonstration”.
5. The fifth thing you see in our text is “The Demonstration”.
And immediately he received his sight,
He didnt ask for riches. He didnt ask for fame. All he asked for was his sight back.
Seek ye first the Kingdom of God. Before you begin to pray to God for anything you should pray to God for spiritual sight and that He would restore your soul!
I am not saying you should pray for riches or fame because i dont think you should. I wouldnt dare ask God for riches or fame in natural. I just want to experience the heavenly riches that are offered through His Son Jesus Christ.
I want to be able to not only say but also declare through experience.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus!
6. Finally we come back to “The Direction” again.
6. Finally we come back to “The Direction” again.
The direction that Jesus took on this day affected the direction that Bartimaus took on thhis day.
He became a part of the family of God. He was no longer a blind begger on the side of the road. He was now a blessed brother in the house of His God.
Why because Jesus turns blind beggers into blessed brothers!
Conclusion:
Bonavista, Jesus is passing by. He has been for a long time. He currently is now. What will you do? Are you in a desperate situation? Do you have the determination to call out to Him? He is calling out to you! Are you willing to make the declaration that needs to be made? If you are you will see the demonstration of God’s power through His Son Jesus and the direction of your life will never be the same
Let's all go down to the river. There's a man who's walking on the water. Come along with me; all I want to see is this man walking on the water.
Well, he can raise the dead from the grave, change the water and turn it into wine. He can make the lame walk; he can make the dumb talk, open up the eyes of the blind.
Let's all go down to the river. There's a man who's walking on the water. Come along with me; all I want to see is this man walking on the water.
Jesus is the man at the river, and he's washing people's sins away He can save the soul if you give him control, be ready for that judgment day
