I Need Jesus to Leave

Events leading up to Jesus addressing the crowd.

He had fed 5,000 with 2 fish and 5 barley loaves.

The people saw a miracle before their very eyes and proclaimed (this must be the prophet we have been expecting).

The Bible says they wanted to take Jesus by force and make him their king which would have enraged Rome and would have annulled what Jesus originally came to do, which is give his life for the sins of the world.

Jesus slips away to a mountain and his disciples tried to wait for Him. But when Jesus doesn’t come, they figure…..”ehhhh he’ll catch up”. They got in a boat and headed back home to Capernaum.

We know the story, they row 3-4 miles out a raging storm hits and then they see Jesus walking on the water. When you are in trouble….have faith to know that Jesus will come to you. He’ll come to your rescue, he will come where you are, he’ll be with you.

Main Text:

Point 1

The Bible then says “The next day” the same crowd that was fed by that miracle meal was looking for Jesus. They noticed that there was only one boat and it was gone. So they tracked Jesus and his disciples back to Capernaum.

When they found Jesus, they asked “Rabbi when did you get here”. They showed concerned, or at least outwardly they showed some concern. But Jesus knew the intent of their hearts said “I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs.

Let me lift from the text right there.

Why do you want to be with Jesus? Why do you want to have a relationship with Jesus? Do you want it because he gets you out of trouble when you are in trouble? Do you want a relationship with Jesus because he has the power to take care of your needs?

Ask your neighbor “What do you want with Jesus?”

Do need him, because you want to go to a better place when you die, or you want to avoid the lake of fire? Or do you want him because you understand who He is and what He has done?

There is a fact that many people serve Jesus or at least think they serve Jesus but they treat Him like He’s a genny in a bottle. They only serve Him because they think they can use Him, but you can’t use Jesus…..cause he knows the intentions of your heart.

But is there anyone in here that can say “I serve Him because I love him, I serve Him because he is God, I serve Him because He is merciful……Why are you serving Him? Ask your neighbor why are you serving Him. Now neighbor tell them why you serve the Lord.

If you got this thing correct, there shouldn’t be just one reason why you serve him. If you have this thing right we could go have the night on the reason why we serve Him. And if you have this thing right, you can use this tool to evangelize and tell others of the hope that you have within you and why you serve the LORD!!!

Point 2

Jesus tells them, your not following me, because you understood the signs, because if you understood the signs then you would understand who I really am and if you understood who I really am, you know I can give you more than things that are perishable. I can give you eternal life, I can forgive your sins, I can make you whole. I can give you things that are eternal not materialistic things. The Lord said “I can do more than just take care of your needs!”

Jesus tells them, instead of using your energy to get food that is going to perish…it’s here today gone tomorrow. It’s in front of you now and gone in five minutes. Use your energy to CHASE AFTER ETERNAL LIFE!!!! That’s the message that Jesus wants to articulate to us tonight!

We chasing after stuff that after awhile isn’t going to even matter. You need to use that energy to chase after eternal life, use that energy to bring a positive and Godly change in your life!

Point 3

They then say “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do? Jesus’ reply was “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.” or Believe on me, the one that God has sent.

Verse 30 then says that they had the audacity to ask Jesus for a sign that he was sent of God. Didn’t he just perform a miracle, how many miracles does it take for you to realize the power that Jesus has? But there intentions where messed up…..they were trying to manipulate Jesus into giving them another free meal.

And you cannot manipulate God into doing what you want Him to do, you have it all wrong…..we have to submit ourselves to the will of God.

They said Moses gave our fathers bread in the wilderness. Jesus corrects them in verse 32 and tells them “Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven, My Father did, AND NOW HE OFFERS YOU THE TRUE BREAD FROM HEAVEN.

The scriptures declares “Blessed are they who hunger for righteousness for they shall be filled!” Do you want to be in right standing with God? You have to hunger for it….you have to desire it. You have to desire it like you desire food. When you get hungry you will do what you have to do to abate that hunger.

There have been people who have done desperate things because they were hungry, they have stole food, they have killed for food, they have done crazy acts because they are so hungry that they just need their bellies full.

And Jesus said in Matthew 5 “Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled.” All the desperate people who just want to be right, all the desperate people who just want to walk right, talk right, think right, act right, be right…..lift your hands and say Lord FILL ME WITH RIGHTEOUSNESS.

I’m about to tell you what Jesus said you need to do.

Jesus said in verse 33:

John 6:33 KJV

For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

They then replied….give us this bread everyday. Still they still not thinking right, because sometimes God will send a word and you still don’t get it, you’ll still think carnally, you’ll still continue in what you were doing and the same mindset.

Jesus then said:

John 6:35 KJV

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

There are a great many people who are looking for something to fill them. They have an emptiness, they have a hunger that is there, but they filling their hunger with the wrong things.

But Jesus said if you just come to me…..you’ll never hunger and if you believe in me you’ll never thirst. Jesus said I have the power to fill the emptiness, I have the power to make you whole, I have the power to make you complete…..just come to me!!

Let’s close on verses 38-40:

John 6:38–40 KJV

For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Jesus said I come down to do the will of God who sent me. What is God’s will? That Jesus would die for our sins, that Jesus would be our propitiation (substitutionary) for our sins.

God’s will is that not one of all those who God has given him be lost. Jesus came…..so that you would be in the grip of God. Jesus came, so that you could have eternal life, Jesus came, to forgive you of your sins, Jesus came…so that if you believe on him and believe in his word that he and the Father would come in and live in you.

Jesus then said “It is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. And it is the Father’s will that I will raise them up at the last day!

Tell your neighbor “I just want to be found in His will!!!”

Look at verse 44:

John 6:44 KJV

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

See we make this about man. We make this about us. We wanna put blame on one another because we not preaching a certain topic. But it isn’t you and your message that draws….it is GOD and GOD ALONE THAT DOES THE DRAWING!

As you can see, I don’t have to preach a whole sermon on water baptism and Holy Ghost filling for people to come to Christ. It is God that does the work! And the reality of the matter, is that he just doesn’t work through the preachers, he works through his disciples because God is in us reaching those and touching those whom He knows will believe this message!

Finally:

Jesus tells them “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you, but anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day.

What Jesus is simply saying is that we have to depend on him, we have to seek him, like we seek our daily food. Jesus has to be the source of your life!

Jesus said “your ancestors ate of the bread in the wilderness and are dead….but if you eat of this bread, you will never die.”

Then the crowd started to disperse, number one because they didn’t believe Jesus, number two, because they didn’t get what they really wanted…..they were only thinking about their stomach, number three, they didn’t understand Jesus and thought Jesus was talking about canabalism.
