Reflection

Silence
· As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.
[5 seconds of silence]
Opening Prayer
(Monday)
· The heavens were formed and filled by your word, O God. When you spoke the stars shone forth in the night sky. Help us hear your words today – shape our hearts according to your will. (from Psalm 33)

Passage
Today’s passage is Psalm 33 verse 6:

The heavens were made by the word of the LORD,ag

and all the stars, by the breath of his mouth.

Exhortation
When God made the world, and everything in it, He spoke. When he created the stars in the sky, He did it with words. This is what Genesis 1 tells us. God said let there be light and there was light. In fact all through Genesis 1 all God is doing is talking. When he created the world, he didn’t even need to lift a finger! Wow, that’s pretty awesome! In fact, when we read Genesis 1 we are blown away by God’s power and might.
But now, I’d like to focus for just a bit on another truth we learn about God in Genesis 1 – a truth we also see in our passage today. And here it is: God speaks. God is a god who talks. He uses words to bring life and light. He uses words to communicate truth, beauty, and goodness. Indeed, the world began with words. Not our words, His words.
Now this may seem like a simple idea, and it is, but it’s also a marvelous reality. If we want to encounter God’s light, love and life, we need to hear his words, and treasure them up in our hearts. The Bible is God’s word. And in the Bible he tells us that his words are faithful and true.
Call to Action: God is a god who speaks. Let’s us, his people learn to listen. In fact, this is why we made the Dwell app, so that God’s people could hear his wonderful, life giving words. Take a few seconds to reflect on the tremendous truth that God is a god who speaks, and he speak to us through the Bible.
[7 seconds of silence]
Closing Prayer
Let's go to God together in prayer.
[3 seconds of silence]
Father thank you for speaking to your people. For communicating your love to us through the Bible. Help us to listen well. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
