Reflection

Silence
· As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.
[5 seconds of silence]
Opening Prayer
(Friday)
· Loving Lord, we delight in your counsel. Today, help our hearts be glad as we receive your words.
[3 seconds of silence]
Passage
Today I’ll be reading from the sixteenth Psalm verses 7 and 8.
Christian Standard Bible (Psalm 16)
7 I will bless the LORD who counsels me—
even at night when my thoughts trouble me.
8 I always let the LORD guide me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.

Exhortation
Imagine that you are about to set off on a grand adventure. A daring quest that will take you to far away lands filled with strange people and places. Before you set out, you have the opportunity to meet with a wise old sage who has made the journey many times. He knows the way, he knows who you should meet when you get there. He knows the secret password to the secret door in the side of the mountain. And most of all he knows the importance of your mission and wants to do everything he can to help you succeed. Would you talk with him? Would you take his wise counsel? Of course you would! Only a foolish person wouldn’t.
So, you’ve met with him and your all set to go. Just before you depart down the long path leading into the great distant mountains, he walks up and stuffs a gold-gilded book in the canvas bag on your back. The book is filled with everything he just told you and much much more!
In reality, life itself is a grand adventure filled with strange people and places. God is the wise sage who knows the way and wants you to succeed. He has given you the gold-gilded book containing his wisdom and counsel. Only the foolish ignore his counsel and set out down the path trusting in themselves. King David completed his quest thousands of years ago, and he did it following God’s good guidance. He says in our passage that even on the dark nights when his thoughts troubled him and the journey seemed hopeless, he opened the book and received the counsel of God. Indeed he says the God and his word should always be our guide.
The wise traveler heeds God’s counsel, reads his words, and walks accordingly. They will not be shaken. They will not fall. Though troubles come, they will succeed in the end.
Call to Action: Let’s take a few seconds to consider the wisdom of our passage and ask the One Wise God to be our guide.
[7 seconds of silence]
Closing Prayer
Let’s pray.
[3 seconds of silence]
Father in heaven indeed you are the One Wise God. You, along with your Son and Spirit love us and want us to finish our journey well. Guide us today. Helps us head your counsel found in your word. We ask this of you Father, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and in the Name of King Jesus. Amen.
