The Call of Logos: Get out, look up and step forward

Matthew 28:16-20
Summary: Matthew 28:16-20 captures the pivotal moment when Jesus commissions His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them, and teaching them to obey His commands. It signifies a significant shift from followers to leaders, as they are entrusted with the mission of spreading the Gospel globally.
Application: This passage challenges believers to move forward in faith, stepping out of their comfort zones to engage in evangelism, discipleship, and obedience to Christ's teachings. It encourages Christians to embrace their role as ambassadors of Christ and actively participate in furthering the kingdom of God.
Teaching: This sermon teaches that the advancement of the church's mission requires intentionality, courage, and reliance on the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit. It emphasizes the need for strategic planning, unity in purpose, and a mindset of continual growth and expansion in reaching the lost and making disciples.
How this passage could point to Christ: The commissioning of the disciples in Matthew 28 echoes the prophetic call of God to His people throughout the Old Testament, culminating in the ultimate mission fulfilled by Jesus Christ. As the promised Messiah, Jesus empowers His followers to carry out the mission of redemption and transformation, symbolizing God's faithfulness in reaching all nations.
Big Idea: As the church advances in the mission of making disciples and spreading the Gospel, believers are called to step up, move forward, and embrace the global mandate with strategic intentionality, unity, and reliance on the empowering presence of the Triune God, ensuring the continual growth and expansion of His kingdom.
When I was a kid, I was scared of jumping off the diving board at the pool. But when I finally did it, the rush and joy I felt made it all worth it. Stepping out of the boat can be terrifying, but it can also lead to incredible blessings!
In what ways can believers embrace their role as ambassadors of Christ in actively participating in furthering the Kingdom of God?
How can believers apply the challenge to move forward in faith, engage in evangelism, discipleship, and obedience, as highlighted in the sermon?
The Storm
He exercised His sovereignty by preaching His kingdom message of salvation from sin (vv. 14–15). In the final segment, He commanded His servants to follow Him (vv. 16–20)
John F. MacArthur
Imagine being Peter, stepping out of the boat onto the water. The waves are crashing, the wind is howling, and yet there's Jesus beckoning him to come. This biblical story is a powerful reminder that sometimes we need to take a leap of faith, even when everything around us seems impossible.
The early church did more than make converts; they also made disciples (Matt. 28:19–20)

To convince men of the truth of a statement is one thing, to convince them of personal sin is another thing, and to convert them is a step higher still. God’s Work Upon Minister And Convert, Volume 30, Sermon #1774 - Acts 26:16-20

I cannot speak for you, but I want to be among those who worship. I do not want just to be a part of some great ecclesiastical machine where the pastor turns the crank and the machine runs. You know—the pastor loves everybody and everybody loves him. He has to do it. He is paid to do it.
I wish that we might get back to worship again. Then when people come into the church they will instantly sense that they have come among holy people, God’s people. They can testify, “Of a truth God is in this place.”
Genesis 28:16
