Paul is writing to the church saying that LOVE is effective and more important than everything else they have been doing no matter how powerful it appears, your doing what is second not the primary…WHAT you need and arent doing is LOVE

this is verb form and in regard to our attitudes with other people in the church=A loving person WILL behave in a certain way doing and not doing some things because of the kind of person he/she is becoming

Patient= A holding in tension in our minds before we give rise to passion=long fused=takes time before blowing up MEEKNESS= power under control=don't start the fight but finish it=love says no “I can call legions of angels...”

2 Peter 3:9 ESV

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

Kind=grows with age=look back to when you were mean or picked on a kid in school? and now you look back at someone you picked on or someone is picking on your kid.

Does Not Envy=what happens when someone else gets what you hoped for? they have success maybe even catapulting them passed you. jealous Refers to the intense desire to advance at the disadvantage of someone else. Those who are jealous resent the success of others.

simple envy covets= i want and don’t have

2nd grudges that others have stuff without wanting it, just not wanting that person to have it=meaness of soul is how one commentator put it

Boast=Refers to the desire to obtain adoration or acknowledgment from others by explaining to others your own self-worth (usually without them asking to know about it) looking for a platform to proclaim all of their accomplishments, must be in the front of everything, the love of Jesus does not need to be in the front of the parade

Church at Corinth has been boasting as they are so spiritual because of the gifts they have

Arrogant=Proud=conceited Refers to self-admiration that leads a person to consider himself or herself better than others--to cherish in your heart your own importance= puff oneself up like the inflatable games this week

Rude= someone thinks they can just butt in your convo ,good manners are a result of love,

We are being called, by the study of God’s word, to acknowledge a few things

Acknowledge that there is no local church anywhere that does not need more love, but, because of such love lacking, be turned outward to look at the needs and interests of others.
