Discussion Questions:

Who took the form of a snake and lied to Adam and Eve about God’s Word in the Garden of Eden? - the enemy/the devil/Satan

Does Satan still lie today? - He sure does

What is it about our hearts that makes us prone to believe the enemy’s lies? - we’re sinners

Introduction: Friends, last night we considered how the enemy used lies with Adam and Even and is still using lies today. Tonight, I want for us to consider what is our resource to combat the lies of the enemy.

John 16:13 “13 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.”

Friends, even though the enemy has a history of lying that makes him really good at it, God the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, is even greater!

Since the Holy Spirit here is designated as the Spirit of Truth that means that He is defined by truth.

Also, when Scripture identifies that “He will guide you into all the truth,” friends, that means He is able to do this.

He is able to expose where we have been believing lies.

He can convict us of acting sinfully on those lies (ex. yelling at parents when should be honoring them).

He can lead us to believe what is true.

He can help us to act in a way that is pleasing to the Lord based on what is true.

Conclusion: Friends, the only way that you will have the Holy Spirit in your life is if the Lord Jesus Christ gives Him to you. The Lord Jesus Christ gives the Holy Spirit to those who have believed on Jesus to save them from their sins. If you have not done so, I pray that you’ll talk to your leaders about what this means. If you have believed on the Lord Jesus to save you, seek the Holy Spirit to help you reject the enemy’s lies and believe what is true.
