Discussion Questions:
When thinking of the word “cling,” give me an example of holding onto something really hard. - monkey bars, baseball bat, bicycle handlebars
According to our song, what is it that we should “cling to” or believe firmly? - in God’s love
What is it that God has done to demonstrate or show His love? - Jesus died on the cross for our sins
Introduction: So far, friends, we’ve considered that God’s love is powerful and lasts forever because it is eternal. We’ve also considered that God’s love is something that we should firmly believe because Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. Tonight, I want for us to consider another big word in our song.
Friends, what word comes next in the following phrase? “It’s our only …”
“Rescue,” that’s right!
When I think of the word “rescue,” I think of Superman, my favorite superhero who saves Lois Lane or Jimmy Olsen from the bad guys!
But, friends, when we say that God’s love rescues or saves us from harm, are we just talking about some made up bad guys?
No!
Instead, we’re talking about something very serious, sin.
Revelation 1:5 “To Him (that is, Jesus) who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood—”
Jesus through His death that demonstrated God’s love, released us or saved us from the punishment our sin deserves.
That punishment, friends, is being forever away from God’s presence, suffering in a place called hell, or also know as God’s wrath.
This is because God hates sin, anything that we think, say, or do, that displeases Him.
Friends, if you have believed on the Lord Jesus Christ to save you from your sins, you can sing our song with confidence that God’s love has saved you from the punishment your sin deserves.
Friends, if you have not believed on the Lord Jesus Christ to save you from your sins, I would encourage you to speak with your leaders about what this means.
Conclusion: Well, friends, we have two more nights which means we’re going to look at another important word and an important phrase - you be thinking about what these might be until we meet again tomorrow night.
