What is the Gospel-
The gospel is the central theme throughout the entire Bible
The Bible tells one grand story that culminates in the gospel message, the good news of Jesus Christ.
Gospel means = Good news
Greek: ε αγγλιον – euangelion = gospel or good news.
The Good News-
1 cor 15.1-8
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. 6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. 7 After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. 8 Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.
The Good news-
GRACE
Heaven is a free gift.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
you cannot earn your way into heaven.
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
When he created man in the garden, Adam & Eve had a perfect fellowship with God.
God wants to have a relationship with you.
How many of you want to go to heaven?
Q- Do you know for sure that if you were to die today you would go to heaven?
What is the Gospel-
The Bad News
Old Testament:
1. Creation and Fall: The story starts with a perfect creation marred by humanity's disobedience.
A Perfect Creation
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
MAN
Sin in the Garden
16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
Through Adam sin and death entered the world
12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—
man is a sinner
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
man cannot save himself
48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
The Good News-
GOD
God is loving & merciful
8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
3 The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.
Therefore He doesn't want to punish you.
God is holy & just
Therefore He must punish sin.
2. Law and Covenant: God establishes laws (covenant) with the Israelites, leading them to restore the broken relationship, but humanity keeps failing to keep those laws perfectly (Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy).
it our Sin that separates us from a Holy God, but the law leads us to the cross.
The Good News-
God is the God of Hope and redemption.
3. Prophecies: Throughout the Old Testament, prophets foretell a coming Messiah, a savior who will redeem God's people and establish a lasting kingdom (Isaiah, Jeremiah, etc.).
The Virgin Birth
Messiah coming from Bethlehem
Jesus sitting on a donkey’s colt
Thirty pieces of silver
Roman soldiers divide his clothing, cast lots
New Testament:
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
JESUS
WHO IS HE
The infinite God-Man
2nd person of the Trinity, Creator of the universe, fully God (Divine) and fully Man.
The New Testament presents Jesus as the fulfillment of those prophecies. and offers forgiveness for sin through his sacrifice on the cross (Gospels).
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
He is the Messiah, the Son of God, who embodies the Law perfectly. The Bible say He never sinned.
say it with me;
Jesus never sinned, but I have.
WHAT DID HE DO
Jesus died on the cross was buried and rose from the dead on the 3rd day.
Jesus paid the penalty for our sins, and purchased a place in heaven for us.
the entire Bible is about the one greatest transaction.
imagine - Illus. Book of my life.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
We receive this gift by Faith.
FAITH
What it is not.
It is not a mere intellectual knowledge of the facts.
Many people believe in God, and Jesus. They also believe in Napoleon and George Washington. They believe Jesus actually lived, and that he was a real person in history. But they are not trusting Him to do anything for them now.
The devil believes and fears Jesus . Did you know that?
What is it?
What the Bible means by Faith is trusting in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life. Christ didn't merely come down to help us through our mundane operation, or to get us safely on an airplane to Hawaii.
Christ came to get us to heaven that we might have eternal life. He came to restore the broken relationship that sin has caused.
acts 16.31
31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
The chair -
To receive eternal life you must transfer your trust from yourself to Christ.
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Does this make sense to you?
You've just heard the greatest story ever told, about the greatest offer ever made, by the greatest person who ever lived.
So how do we receive God’s gift?

INVITATION
New Creation:
Believers in Jesus are seen as part of a new creation, no longer separated from God but adopted as His children (Galatians, Romans).
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
