When we sing, “You’ve got to stand up for truth,” what are we saying that we should do with the truth of God’s Word? - use it to combat the enemies lies
What are some ways that we can learn and know God’s Word? - read, study, be taught
According to Psalm 119:11, we use God’s Word to keep us from doing what against God? - sinning
Introduction: Friends, last night we considered the importance of being in God’s Word in order to combat the lies of the enemy. Tonight, I want for us consider why it is that, above all, we turn to God’s Spirit and His Word when faced with the lies of the enemy.
Finish this line for me, “‘Cause there’s no denying, we all need reminding, …” (Truth comes from God [X2]; that’s right!)
We actually make this statement based on God’s character.
Psalm 31:5 “5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have ransomed me, O Lord, God of truth.”
God is defined here by truth.
Truth marks His character.
Additionally, we read in James 1:17 “17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.”
That is, God is consistent.
He will never act in a way that is not in keeping with His character.
Conclusion: Therefore, based on God’s consistent, truthful character, we confidently say that God is the source of truth.
