Wednesday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Mt 10:1-7
When I was still very young, I always loved and admired religious nuns, brothers, priests, and bishops because I saw a lot of goodness in them. I saw they have many qualifications. They were so good at many things. I wished to be like them. But I never thought I could be one because I thought that to be a priest or a leader in the Church, I had to be very smart, be super holy, and have many qualifications so that God may choose me to lead God’s people. I was not a great student at all.
However, everything changed when I had a chance to read the bible, especially this passage today. Jesus chose the twelve disciples. Most of them were poor, weak, uneducated fishermen, and sinful. My understanding of God changed. From this, I realized the truth that God’s calling is not based on who we are or what we have. God chose me, and you are chosen based on who God is. The reason why I said God chose you is because God has chosen you, and you are consecrated to be his disciples through the water of baptism. Like Peter said, “You are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own.” God chose you and me, but it is not based on who we are or what we have, but on who he is.
This leads me to another truth, God loves each one of us based on who God is, not based on what I have. Not because I achieve more than God loves me more. Not because I am a priest then God loves me more. No, God loves me. God loves you because He is love. He loves each one of us in his fullness of sense. St. Augustine states that “God loves each of us as if there were only one of us.” What we need to do is simple to say “yes” to Jesus and allow him to love us because he has chosen us for this. He has chosen us to give himself completely. God did not spare anything but gave himself up to us all.
The Eucharist is the greatest example of God’s calling love for each of us. and when you taste God's love, and receive His Body and Blood, you will no longer want to do anything other than repay God's love.
May God bless us all.
