Who are humans?
A foundational question of life. The answer we give will reveal much about how we treat others, ourselves, and the purpose of humanity.
Who/What has authority?
Who/What has authority?
Tied to our first question but yet distinctly different is the one of authority.
Mark asks, “Who is Jesus?”
Mark asks, “Who is Jesus?”
This is one of the central questions of the Gospel.
One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

Isaiah 5.2 makes this abundantly clear and the people would have understood this connection. We also see this in John 15 when Jesus talks about the vine and the branches with him being the True Vine.

The leaders get this as we see at the end, and possibly most of the crowd. They were left in charge of God’s field. I see a similarity with the prophecies of Ezekiel and Israel being God’s flock and the leaders being the hired shepherds.

The term servant is used in some contexts to mean the prophets of God who have come to take care of God’s fruit. Jeremiah 7.25 gives us this connection.
From the time your ancestors left Egypt until now, day after day, again and again I sent you my servants the prophets.
The problem: we all want to be in charge.

This isn’t just a story about the tenants and
Jesus is the ultimate heir to all—He is the Messiah!

Just because they do what they want to Jesus does not mean it isn’t true.
We must be about God’s purpose and plan.
