20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Paul had founded this church(es) in Acts 13-14.
Frustrated that they had moved away from the gospel that he had taught them.
Judaizers teaching Christ + circumcision = salvation.
Truth: in Christ alone was salvation!
Christianity began as a Jewish movement in Jerusalem that spread to the world.
At some point, gentiles surpassed Jews.
A lot of debated begins and it dealt with in Acts 15.
Theses disagreements center around cultural differences.
At some point those Paul would call Judaizers would come to Galatia and start teaching that to be a part they had to eat kosher and circumcise the men.
Paul writes a letter dealing with this: Galatians
Chapters 1-2: Gospel of the Crucified Messiah
Chapters 3-4: New multicultural family of God
Chapters 5-6: Transformation by the Spirit
Chapter 1-2: deals with false teaching/doctrine
A different gospel?!
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
We have a mandate to be very careful about the Gospel that we preach.
In Paul’s day they were adding to is
Today they are taking away from it.
We should preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified!
Paul’s message is we are justified by our faith, not by the Torah.
We get this all backwards today!
Got to get people to punch a list and do things just right…
We perceive ourselves more holy because we look a little different…
Makes no sense!
Are you proud of the fact that you can feed and dress yourself as an adult?
Do you look down at a baby because they can’t?
Do you look down on a toddler because they put their shoes on the wrong feet?
It’s physical maturity vs. spiritual maturity!
Peter gets himself into a little bit of trouble… Paul has to correct him.
16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Justified: to be declared righteous - Just -as if - I had never sinned.
Accounting term, make up the difference.
It is balancing the books by adding however much is short, bringing the account to a zero balance.
Faith in Jesus: simply, he took care of it!
I’m forgiven, I am now a part of the family of God
By the Faith of Jesus: cycle - I have faith in him, he has faith in me.
Means and exchange of proof…
He has given his life to/for me, I give my life to/for him!

Chapter 3-4: the Multicultural family of God.
Starts by going back to Abraham, Genesis 12, 15 by trusting what God spoke to him and responding in obedience.
God’s purpose has always been to have a world wide family.
Faith based NOT law.
What’s the purpose of the Law? Romans 7-8.
Law was a two-sided coin.
Side one was the spotlight that it put on Israel and the shortcomings of humanity.
Law would condemned humanity.
Other side of the Law was that it was like a strict school teacher that kept everyone in line until Christ came!
So Jesus was the faithful Israelite that fulfilled the law, taking the curse on himself and dying in humanities place.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
To add to the gospel (or take away from it) made no sense to Paul!
would mean that Jesus didn’t not fulfill the law
would neglect the power and liberty of the Spirit
would limit the gospel to the Jews only
Chapters 5-6: the transforming power of the Spirit
The Law was good but offered no power for the individual to succeed.
The Gospel is the Good News because Jesus fulfilled the Law on our behalf!
There MUST be a transition though!
Old human vs. New human
Old human is defined by evil works or the Works (fruit) of the Flesh.
sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, rivalries, dissension, divisions, envy, drunkenness
New man is defined by good works or the Fruit (works) of the Sprint.
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control
Key verses principal:
24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
You have to deal with the bad fruit!
Prune yourself!
When you deal with self, you become the Gospel - Gal. 6.2.
15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
The only thing that matters is that YOU BECOME A NEW CREATURE!
