is not rude, is not self-seeking, is not irritable, and does not keep a record of wrongs.

INTRO—

Master Chef…Generations!
Baby Boomers (46-64)…Gen X (65-80)…Millennials (81-96)…Gen Z (97-12)
[[with acknowledgements that the Greatest Generation (01-27), the Silent Generation (28-45), and Gen A (13-25) are not represented.]]
**Which will be the best/win?? (Which IS the best?)
Among the members of these generations, we find typical perspectives AND…preferences.
Preference regarding: Food (BBQ, ethnic-based, etc.)…Music (Rock!, Country, Jazz…)…Reading (None, History/Biography, Fiction, Theological…).
Is there anything wrong with having a preference? [NO!…sorta]
Having a preference for sin. (That’s a problem.)
Idolizing our preferences (includes assuming everyone else’s preferences are identical to mine…or less significant than mine.)

Guarding Against Idolizing Preferences

We look to Scripture to give us the God-honoring perspective—in our individual AND corporate (collective, life-together) lives…
Romans 13:8 “Do not owe anyone anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.”
1 Corinthians 13:5a “[Love (v. 4)] is not rude, is not self-seeking,… is not irritable, and does not keep a record of wrongs.”
John 15:12 ““This is my command: Love one another as I have loved you.”
Matthew 22:39 “The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” [Leviticus 19.18]
Matthew 5:44 “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” [Matthew 5.43-48]
[[Importance of LOVE…God; One Another, Neighbors, Enemies. UGH, enough already!!! BUUUUUTT…look at how foundational this priority is to our lives: Relationships, Antagonism, Preferences…!!!]]
INDIVIDUALLY
Philippians 2:4 “Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.”
Philippians 2:1–4 “If, then, there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, make my joy complete by thinking the same way, having the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.”
Philippians 2:5–8 “Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross.”
[[How we value others in our lives: Making relational connections; growing relationships; winning friends (influencing enemies)]]
CORPORATELY
Romans 12:10 “Love one another deeply as brothers and sisters. Take the lead in honoring one another.”
Romans 12:9–18 “Let love be without hypocrisy. Detest evil; cling to what is good. Love one another deeply as brothers and sisters. Take the lead in honoring one another. Do not lack diligence in zeal; be fervent in the Spirit; serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer. Share with the saints in their needs; pursue hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud; instead, associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own estimation. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Give careful thought to do what is honorable in everyone’s eyes. If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
[[Value someone else (through their preference(s))!!! Younger to Older…Men to Women…Poor to Rich [AND ‘vice versa’ with all of these]]
A word about how we focus ourselves to ‘be a church;’ ‘do life together’…We need to be sure we are including, and even prioritizing, how to connect and strengthen the ‘of us’ who are not yet here…!!!
[[For the connecting and strengthening of believers/new believers.]]

CONCL—

Competitions (like Master Chef, Sports, etc.) require a certain mindset. Team competitions, especially so…
1 Corinthians 9:24–25 “Don’t you know that the runners in a stadium all race, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way to win the prize. Now everyone who competes exercises self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable crown.”
1 Timothy 2:1–4 “First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
