Message Recap:
Problem 1
- Victim Mindset: Always blame, never take responsibility
Impact 1
- You keep yourself from receiving the gift of victory God has given you
Problem 2
- Insecurity Mindset: Thoughts of inadequacy and lack of control
- You live as an Imposter rather than living in your true identity
Introduction
Illustration -
You're in a dark room and someone is trying to dispose of the darkness by putting it in the trash...
Darkness is simply the absence of Light - it only exists in the void of light
Problem:
Some of your thinking is currently dark because it lacks light
Some of you are attempting to remove insecure and negative thoughts (like a person trying to throw away darkness)
The problem is you lack a replacement
Impact:
Darkness is still present because you lack light
The work of God in us is Removal and Addition
IF TIME ALOTS: Dead grass example - keeps the healthy grass from growing
Pose the Question:
So what is the light? What is the mindset that we need to get us out of darkness?
The Mind of Christ
1 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)
“7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
God has given us a Spirit the Holy Spirit (Helper)
**Main Passage**
1 Corinthians 2:12 (NLT)
“12 And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.
The Holy Spirit helps you have the Mind of Christ
He brings light to darkness
1 Corinthians 2:13-16 (NLT)
13 When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. 14 But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. 15 Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others.
16 For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts?
Who knows enough to teach him?”
But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.”
Distinguish between having the Holy Spirit and not having the Holy Spirit:
Not having -
When you don’t have the Holy Spirit you don’t have the mind of Christ
You can’t understand the things of God
The things of God are foolish to you because you operate in Worldly thinking...
Example - Connecting to WIFI without a router and modem/internet services
Things of God can only be evaluated spiritually, but you can’t evaluate and thus you can’t understand because you do not have the Holy Spirit
“It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it”
Having - (The benefits of the Mind of Christ) ***THIS IS THE HOOK SPEND TIME HERE AND PREACH***
You can draw conclusions based on God’s perspective - Uncertain
Make wise decisions - Making unwise choices
Recognize God’s activities - Confused
Distinguish between - Discernment
Good and Evil
Correct and Incorrect use of scripture
Identify and expose false teachers - Bad influences who lead astray
INFLUENCE:
If you brought a friend to church you used your influence to bring them
Started vaping because you were influenced
What does it mean to have the Mind of Christ and How can I have it?
It means living under God’s influence by sharing in three things from Him
Having the Mind of Christ means sharing in God’s Plan
Bring glory to Himself - “The glory of God is man fully alive” -Irenaeus
Restore creation to its original splendor
Provide salvation to sinners
How do these things express themselves in my life?
Having the Mind of Christ means sharing in God’s Purpose
Jesus said: Luke 19:10 (NLT) “ For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost”
Do my actions align with his purpose?
Having the Mind of Christ means sharing in God’s Perspective
Humility
Obedience - “to death”
Compassion
Prayerful dependence on God
Dependence on God’s Word
Jesus responce to the Devil:
Matthew 4:4 (NIV)
“Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Jesus dedication to the “WRITTEN” Word
Jesus uses the Word to establish intimacy with God
“Mouth of God”
LOGOS & RHEMA:
Logos - Written Word of God
Rhema - The Spoken Word of God
Relatable Question:
Do you struggle with insecure thoughts
Are you plagued by depressing thoughts?
Are you constantly dealing with thoughts of Comparison?
Do you battle against doubtful or fear-filled thougths?
Then you need more LOGOS and RHEMA
Isaiah 55:8-9(NLT)
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,”
says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
When we expose ourselves to Logos and Rhema on a daily bases He begins to elevate our thinking (The Mind of Christ)
Salvation:
