Luke 7:37-39
Luke 7:37-39
Luke 7:37–39 “And behold, a woman in the town who was a sinner, when she learned that he was dining in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of perfumed oil, and standing behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and was wiping them with the hair of her head and was kissing his feet and anointing them with the perfumed oil. Now when the Pharisee who invited him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what kind of woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner.””
Luke 7:41–47 ““There were two debtors who owed a certain creditor. One owed five hundred denarii and the other fifty. When they were not able to repay him, he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon answered and said, “I suppose that it is the one to whom he forgave more.” And he said to him, “You have judged correctly.”
And turning toward the woman, he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered into your house. You did not give me water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but from the time I entered, she has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not anoint my head with olive oil, but she anointed my feet with perfumed oil. For this reason I tell you, her sins—which were many—have been forgiven, for she loved much. But the one to whom little is forgiven loves little.””
Do you think God forgive the lady for the wonderful treatment and services?
No!
Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.””
Jesus forgive her because of her true repentance
Tears only come with emotions.
Types of Tears:
Basal Tears: Constantly produced to keep the cornea lubricated and nourished. They contain enzymes and antibodies that protect the eye from infection.
Reflex Tears: Generated in response to irritants like smoke, wind, or foreign bodies. They help to flush out harmful substances.
Emotional Tears: Triggered by strong emotions, these tears contain higher levels of stress hormones and natural painkillers like endorphins, which may help reduce stress.
Psalm 56:8 “You have kept count of my wanderings. Put my tears in your bottle; are they not in your book?”
Your every tear is recorded in book. that much is your tear worth
Job 16:20 “My friends scorn me; my eye pours out tears to God,”
Women's hair is her Glory/garva
1 Corinthians 11:15“But a woman, if she wears long hair, it is her glory, because her hair is given for a covering.”
God blessed long hair to women to be something proud of,
And the very purpose of long hair is for covering her body.
And here this woman used her Glory to wipe the feet of Jesus.
Can we all say Hallelujah for these level of repentance.
See honor God with your body righteously
Psalm 119:9 “How can a young man keep his way pure? By taking heed according to your word.”
According to the Bible, staying away from lust involves several key principles and practices:
Guarding Your Eyes and Mind: Jesus teaches in Matthew 5:28 that even looking at someone with lustful intent is sinful. Therefore, controlling what you look at and dwell upon is crucial.
Renewing Your Mind: Romans 12:2 advises believers to renew their minds. This involves filling your mind with things that are pure and noble rather than indulging in thoughts that lead to lust.
Avoiding Temptation: Proverbs 4:14-15 encourages avoiding paths where temptation might be strong. This could mean avoiding certain places, situations, or even people that might trigger lustful thoughts.
Practicing Self-Control: Galatians 5:16-25 highlights the importance of walking by the Spirit, which empowers believers to exercise self-control over their desires and passions.
Accountability and Community: James 5:16 encourages confessing sins to one another and praying for each other. Having accountability partners or being part of a supportive community can help in overcoming lustful tendencies.
Focusing on God’s Word: Psalm 119:9-11 emphasizes the role of God's Word in keeping us pure. By meditating on Scripture and applying its principles, we can be better equipped to resist temptation.
Cultivating a Spirit of Gratitude: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 encourages giving thanks in all circumstances. A heart filled with gratitude is less likely to be consumed by selfish desires.
Seeking God’s Help: Philippians 4:13 reminds believers that they can do all things through Christ who strengthens them. Prayer and reliance on God’s grace are essential in the battle against lust.
