The State of the Union
We live to know Him and make Him known:
We want you to have one on one and daily encounters with God
Spending time with God daily should be our number one goal every day
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
We have to seek
Others cannot seek for you
We make Him known
Someone’s eternity is attached to you
The Truth exposes and liberates
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
We’re going to talk about things that might make you a bit uncomfortable and that’s ok
Matthew 12:43–45 (NKJV)
43 “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. 44 Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”
We are seeing common themes in American and even in the body of Christ that is a present day re-run of things that occured in the old testament
History is repeating itself in front of our faces
You are the resistance
We will not stand aside and let our children fight the battles that God called us to
Today I want to talk specifically about a god or idol from the old testament that we are seeing resurface in modern day times:
Just so we’re clear on idolatry:
3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
Idol is a likeness of anything that you would make and worship
Satan fell from Heaven because he wanted the worship to himself
Which means there must be something really important spiritually to worship
If Satan was willing to trade in His eternity for worship
I think our worship doest more to effect the spiritual realm than we understand
Satan doesn’t care who or what you worship, as long as it isn’t God
There will always be a temptation to idolatry:
We do not worship idols so blatantly
But most people worship the works of their hands more than they worship God
What can become an idol?:
simple answer, everything
Your job
Your kids
Your marriage
Your business
Money
Tv
How the good old Y.O.U?
The blessings God gives us can become idols
You look at Isreal
They took the very spoils of what God gave them from Egypt
And melted them down to create a golden calf
Idolatry leaves you bankrupt
It’ll make you give everything you have to own you
The Rich Young ruler:
Matthew 19:
It bankrupted him from experiencing the presence of Jesus
God warns Isreal and is warning us time and time again to not fall into idolatry
Through the prophets, through the kings you see it over and over again to go back to idol worship
In Exodus 32 Isreal opened up a door that they were never able to shut:
They opened a door that they never were fully able to shut
What you do and don’t do know will open and close doors for your kids to either walk through or be forced to try and shut
The most prominent idol and god of the the old testament that the nation of isreal had the most problem returning to is by far the god
Baal
I’m going to call Him Bale
But the proper pronunciation of his name is BaH-AL
Baal was a Canaanite diety
The supreme god of Canaan and Phoenicians
Baal become popular among Isreal during the Rule of the Judges
His first mention
7 So the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God, and served the Baals and Asherahs.
He became widespread in Isreal during Ahab’s reign and under the rule of his cohort Jezebel
14 You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are all around you 15 (for the Lord your God is a jealous God among you), lest the anger of the Lord your God be aroused against you and destroy you from the face of the earth.
Baal:
means Lord, owner, master
Known as the possessor
The Husband to the people
God the Father and Jesus have been called the Husband and we are the Bride
Matthew, 2 Corinthians, Revelation and Ephesians
27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
Baal wants to be the possessor:
Believed to be a fertility god who helped the earth produce crops and have children
In an agrarian society fertility and crop production is prosperity
Baal took the shape of a Bull or ram
Of all the foreign god’s the Isrealites come in contact with they struggled the most with Baal worship
NOT LONG AFTER THEY SETTLED INTO THE PROMISED LAND THAT THEY BEGAN TURNING AWAY FROM GOD
Johnathan Cahn in his book the return of the god’s:
“Baal promised the Israelites fertility, fruitfulness, increase, gain and prosperity. Thus as they began cultivating the land, the temptation was to invoke his powers proved more than compelling. Many Isrealites turned away from God to follow him.”
3 So Israel was joined to Baal of Peor, and the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel.
16 Look, these women caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to trespass against the Lord in the incident of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.
5 So Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Every one of you kill his men who were joined to Baal of Peor.”
10 “I found Israel
Like grapes in the wilderness;
I saw your fathers
As the firstfruits on the fig tree in its first season.
But they went to Baal Peor,
And separated themselves to that shame;
They became an abomination like the thing they loved.
3 Your eyes have seen what the Lord did at Baal Peor; for the Lord your God has destroyed from among you all the men who followed Baal of Peor.
This goes on for a long time
28 They joined themselves also to Baal of Peor,
And ate sacrifices made to the dead.
When we talk about empty houses in America this is by far the closest re-run we are seeing of old testament idolatry
What would happen if the Spirit of Baal returned to America?
Modern day baal worship:
Sexual immorality is in most was one of the prominent forms of baal worship
The more sexual immoral acts they engaged in the more prosperity they believed would come
SEX sales
What was once sacred, secret and demonized
Is now mocked, open, celebrated and monetized
As a country we value more the prosperity of our land more than the morality and spirituality of it

By opening our houses up we allowed in other deities via the spirit of openness. Now we embrace unbiblical, immoral and destructive ideas all in the name of progress

What people ultimately lost in their promise land when they turned to Baal was a the sense of direction
In this stat of the Union series we are doing, I want to bring attention to what God does:
He always brings a prophet in opposition
Elijah rose up against the apostate Ahab and his co-regent Jezebel
God directly confronted the people with one man
21 And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word. 22 Then Elijah said to the people, “I alone am left a prophet of the Lord; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
Long story short Elijah proves to the people and the 450 prophets of Baal that Our God is the only God worth worshipping
One man or woman with the spirit of God is able to take out armies of the enemy:
Not by might not by power but by my spirit says the Lord
Isolation:
The enemy will try and tell you that you’re the crazy one believing that wrong is wrong and right is right
That you need to except how I live my life
Not Hate but morality
Culture will tell you that your opinions are antiquated, old fashioned, reactionary and wrong
18 Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.”
One man or woman of God can be the catalyst for 7, and 70, and 700 and 7,000
You can be that one that shuts the door to immorality in your family
16 “And it shall be, in that day,”
Says the Lord,
“That you will call Me ‘My Husband,’
And no longer call Me ‘My Master,’
17 For I will take from her mouth the names of the Baals,
And they shall be remembered by their name no more.
26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
Alter Call:
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Sinners Prayer:
"God, I know that I am a sinner.
I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin.
I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior.
I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness.
I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior.
Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!"
