21 Days of Prayer

Let’s Jump into today’s message.
If you are new to our church today, it would be helpful for you to know that we practice a form of preaching called “Expository Preaching”.
What that means, is we believe the Bible is best taught by taking books of the Bible and then breaking them down from beginning to end, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. Our goal, to better understand not only what God’s Word says, but what it means in our lives today.
We are currently walking through the NT book of Matthew.
Last week we Started Chapter 8.
Matthew now moves from Jesus’ Authority over the Kingdom to Jesus’ power as the promised King of the world.
As we Journey through chapters 8 and 9 Matthew records 10 miracles of Jesus
These ten accounts support Jesus’ claims to be Messiah.
Matthew arranges these 10 miracles to invite comparisons with the 10 plagues of Egypt, Jesus is the Better Moses
Where Moses miracles brought destruction, Jesus’ miracles bring Healing and restoration to his people
These miracles are Not in Chronological Order, Matthew is establishing that Jesus has power over three principle issues his people deal with.
Matthew Through out this Document has set out to prove how Jesus fulfilled both the Davidic Covenant and the Abrahamic Coventant.

Matthew’s chronology followed a logical order as he presented the evidence for the messiahship of Yeshua of Nazareth. The early chapters of his gospel deal with the preparations for the King, whereas the Sermon on the Mount reveals the precepts of Messiah. We now come to a section that is vitally important to the Jewish mind, i.e., proofs to substantiate the words of Yeshua. It is one thing to claim to be a messiah. It is quite another to offer tangible, physical evidence to validate those claims. This certainly would have been a central focus of the rabbinic leadership of the first century, as they were the ones called to discern truth from error. Many false messiahs had tried to capture Israel’s attention over the years. The rabbis therefore developed certain criteria based on the Scriptures for how to recognize the true Mashiach when he appears. Matthew, as a traditional Jew, makes note of some of the actions of Yeshua and how they strongly support his claims of being the King of Israel.

Matthew is also at the same time showing that Jesus is the Better Moses. The Better Prophet. Not that Moses was bad it is Just that Jesus is Better. In Fact Moses fortold of a better Prophet.
Deuteronomy 18:15 CSB
15 “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him.
He will demonstrate Jesus’ ability.

Jesus’ Ability To Heal the Body

Jesus’ Power over Creation

Jesus’ Authority over the Spirit Realm

This Means Jesus the Messiah Has Power Over All Things!

Last week we studied the healing of the Leper. The First Healing in Matthews List of Ten. What’s crazy is as I was studying this week one commentator pointed out that The First Miracle echos a Miracle in Moses Life. In fact it was the first Miracle God Showed Moses.
Exodus 4:6–8 CSB
6 In addition the Lord said to him, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” So he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, his hand was diseased, resembling snow. 7 “Put your hand back inside your cloak,” he said. So he put his hand back inside his cloak, and when he took it out, it had again become like the rest of his skin. 8 “If they will not believe you and will not respond to the evidence of the first sign, they may believe the evidence of the second sign.
The Jew searching for answers would have caught this parallel miracle.
Not only that but Matthew is pointing the reader to the idea that:

Moses Freed the Israelites from the Bondage of Egypt.

Jesus will Free them from the Slavery of Sin.

Well enough about last week: Let’s Dive into this weeks Miracle!
Matthew 8:5–13 CSB
5 When he entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, pleading with him, 6 “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, in terrible agony.” 7 He said to him, “Am I to come and heal him?” 8 “Lord,” the centurion replied, “I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I too am a man under authority, having soldiers under my command. I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.” 10 Hearing this, Jesus was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with so great a faith. 11 I tell you that many will come from east and west to share the banquet with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 Then Jesus told the centurion, “Go. As you have believed, let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that very moment.
Jesus is back at his home base.......
Let’s take a look at the situation.
A Gentile approaches Jesus But not just any Gentile A Roman Centurion........
This Man was in charge of a Company of 100 Roman Soldiers......
He is approaching Jesus on behalf of a Servant.......i.e. His expendable property.
Luke tells it a little different......We don’t really have an answer as why.
Luke 7:1–10 (CSB)
1 When he had concluded saying all this to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum.
2 A centurion’s servant, who was highly valued by him, was sick and about to die.
3 When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to him, requesting him to come and save the life of his servant.
4 When they reached Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy for you to grant this,
5 because he loves our nation and has built us a synagogue.”
6 Jesus went with them, and when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to tell him, “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, since I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.
7 That is why I didn’t even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.
8 For I too am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under my command. I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
9 Jesus heard this and was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found so great a faith even in Israel.”
10 When those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant in good health.
The title of today’s message is:

Finally, Someone Who Gets It!

What we see out of this Gentile is every attribute that Jesus has just taught about in the beatitudes.
Matthew 5:3–10 CSB
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the humble, for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
This guy has obviously came to know God through his Occupation of Isreal.
He has listened as the Word has been taught.
He has allowed the Word to change his life and Shape Him
He has paid attention to the teachings of what the Messiah would do and look like.
He has heard of Jesus and Placed his Faith in Him.
So Much Faith that He believed that Jesus had the power to Heal from a distance.
This was not something that was foretold about Jesus.
This Gentile believed that.......
Matthew 8:8–9 CSB
8 “Lord,” the centurion replied, “I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I too am a man under authority, having soldiers under my command. I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.”
Now take notice of Jesus’ Reaction to all of this.....
Matthew 8:7 CSB
7 He said to him, “Am I to come and heal him?”
Luke 7:6 (CSB)
6 Jesus went with them,
Again Jesus was willing! Willing enough to go into the house of a Dog.
But the Centurion had enough respect for Jesus and the customs of the Jews He would not let Jesus make himself unclean.
Luke 7:6–7 CSB
6 Jesus went with them, and when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to tell him, “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, since I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. 7 That is why I didn’t even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.
This completely catches Jesus off guard. This shows the Human nature of Jesus in this situation.
The Holy Spirit had not give Jesus the foreknowledge of this man’s faith.
Matthew 8:10 CSB
10 Hearing this, Jesus was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with so great a faith.
This is a powerful moment that we can all choose to grow from.
Are we going to Choose the Path of the Centerion.......Love those beneath us.....Trust in the Word of God............Trust in Jesus’ Authority..............Show Kindness to all God’s People...........
I have made a lot of comments about Judging those those who God is cleaning up..... However make no mistake you need to be cleaned up........
Or are we going to choose the Path of the Religious Elite who believe they are entitled to the Kingdom and it’s benefits just because of Checking all the boxes?
Matthew 8:11–12 CSB
11 I tell you that many will come from east and west to share the banquet with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Unless we put our faith in Jesus and allow His word to change us we are at risk of being put out..........
Where is your Faith.
Matthew 8:13 CSB
13 Then Jesus told the centurion, “Go. As you have believed, let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that very moment.
This man had no doubt and he wasn’t surprised that Jesus answered.
