Pr 20:24 Even a courageous person’s steps are determined by the Lord, so how can anyone understand his own way?

Even the strongest man’s steps are determined by God. So how can we even think about going our own way?
Things may go well while doing things our way, but then God makes us pivot in His direction.
Demonstrate a pivot. Explain how one foot is planted while the other moves around.

Ac 16:6–10 6 They went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia; they had been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. 7 When they came to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. 8 Passing by Mysia they went down to Troas. 9 During the night Paul had a vision in which a Macedonian man was standing and pleading with him, “Cross over to Macedonia and help us!” 10 After he had seen the vision, we immediately made efforts to set out for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

The plan: Asia The pivot: Macedonia to help a man.
God can make us pivot to help those in need of Christ.
Reminds me of Jonah. But he ran the other way when God asked him to pivot.

Je 9:23–24 23 “ ‘This is what the Lord says: The wise person should not boast in his wisdom; the strong should not boast in his strength; the wealthy should not boast in his wealth. 24 But the one who boasts should boast in this: that he understands and knows me— that I am the Lord, showing faithful love, justice, and righteousness on the earth, for I delight in these things. This is the Lord’s declaration.

We shouldn’t brag about what WE have done. It’s all God, not us.

Lk 9:62 But Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

If you are plowing, you have to have straight lines. If you are looking backwards, you will veer off.
Being not fit for the Kingdom of God scares me. More so than any person does.
As for me, I have braved the sneer of men because I feared the frown of my Lord.
-Charles Spurgeon

Is 40:31 but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.

When we try our way, we battle with ourselves. When we trust in God, He makes a way.
When we finally trust in Him and lay our burdens and battles down at His feet, we are renewed!

Ps 37:23–24 23 A person’s steps are established by the Lord, and he takes pleasure in his way. 24 Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, because the Lord supports him with his hand.

Sometimes it seems like when we pivot, we fall. That’s because we are not grounded in Him!
Even if we fall, we must trust that God will get us through it.

Pr 16:3 Commit your activities to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

Plant yourself in God. Trust in Him and His Will and we will overcome.
When you pivot, one foot is grounded firmly. Are you grounded firmly in Christ?
Remember your ultimate purpose, and when you set yourself to your day’s work or approach any activity in the world, let HOLINESS TO THE LORD be written upon your hearts in all that you do.
Richard Baxter (Puritan Divine)
