Psalm 90 NASB 2020

A Prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. You turn mortals back into dust And say, “Return, you sons of mankind.” For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it passes by, Or like a watch in the night. You have swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep; In the morning they are like grass that sprouts anew. In the morning it flourishes and sprouts anew; Toward evening it wilts and withers away. For we have been consumed by Your anger, And we have been terrified by Your wrath. You have placed our guilty deeds before You, Our hidden sins in the light of Your presence. For all our days have dwindled away in Your fury; We have finished our years like a sigh. As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, Or if due to strength, eighty years, Yet their pride is only trouble and tragedy; For it quickly passes, and we disappear. Who understands the power of Your anger And Your fury, according to the fear that is due You? So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom. Do return, Lord; how long will it be? And be sorry for Your servants. Satisfy us in the morning with Your graciousness, That we may sing for joy and rejoice all our days. Make us glad according to the days You have afflicted us, And the years we have seen evil. Let Your work appear to Your servants And Your majesty to their children. May the kindness of the Lord our God be upon us; And confirm for us the work of our hands; Yes, confirm the work of our hands.

Author

All of The authors of the Psalms are unknown, we know that Moses wrote (1), David (73), Solomon (2), the sons of Korah (11, including one to which the name of Heman is also attached), Asaph (12), and Ethan (1) it is possible that others also wrote some of the Psalms, as well!!!!

The author of Psalms 90 is Moses.

Date

The date of the Psalms covers from the Exodus, roughly 1300 BC through the return of the exiles, 586ish some 800 years.

We do not know the exact date of the Psalms but it must have been written in the wilderness, 13th Century BCE !!!!

History

This covers some of the major events in the Jewish History to vast to cover here.

This would be the Great Exodus from Egypt, as described in Exodus.

Structure

The Psalms, are songs, poems and hymns to praise and honor YHWH!!!!

There are (5) sections to the Psalms , which stands for The Broken, Rom 3:23, Rev 2:5, The Fallen, Gen 1:4-5, Rev 12:4-9, The Lost, Mat 18:10-14, Joh 10:27-30, The Sinner, Gen 6:16, 1 Ti 1:8-9, The Unbelieving, Luk 15:1-32, John 3:18 !!!!

Psalms (90) appears to be a corporate lament, give by Moses to the congregation, Qahal.

Theology/Purpose

The Theology of the Psalms is to declare YHWH as Lord God almighty. That we need to trust in the ways of YHWH and not man, 2 Ki 18:1-37, 2 Mac 8:18-20, 2 Mac 15:1-39, Psa 37:3, Psa 56:4, Psa 118:8-9, Prov 3:5-6, Mat 19:26, Mark 9:23, Luk 1:37!!!!

Application

YHWH, I can not thank you enough for loving so much You are willing to teach me to walk in Theophilus and to share Theophilus with the world. That all learn to walk in Your ways and receive Theophilus for themselves. Thank You for being the author of our salvation and the deliver of our salvation.
