We Must Do Good Together v. 9a

EX: Do good together, This is an implicit point not an explicit point. plural pronouns. we, us. commands given to a community and Paul considers himself a part of this community. I am in the fight at RHC and you are in it with us. Don’t grow weary.
ILL: Vera’s adoption. Paramount providing a hotel, trading houses, Heath sending formula and diapers. Brittany and I were the adoptive parents. We don’t do go alone. Different roles of doing and sending and supporting.
APP: The same is true of church planting. Funding the work, providing volunteers, and the RHC team on the ground day in and day out. and training up future ministry leaders like Curtis. We do this together.
ILL: Bryan, Jacob and Curtis.
T/S- Implicit point but it is crucial point. We can’t do this alone.

We Must Do Good To Be Rewarded v. 9

It is true that we need you in order to be successful and to not give up, but I also want you to see that in supporting church planting and doing good you will be rewarded. The Gospel is good news that keeps getting better that more we learn of it. Paul encourages to do grow weary, because we will reap, if we do not give up. Some translations translate “do not give up” and “do not grow weary” However, this is to the point of giving up. You will get tired, feel strain, question is it really worth it. But don’t give up. If long to reap.
What will we reap? Galatians 6:8 “For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”
What does this mean? Don’t we reap eternal life because of faith? Psalm 16:11 “….; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” How do we understand salvation by faith alone and the promise of reward for doing good? Is there eternal reward for those who sow in the spirit for missions and church planting?
I believe yes. There is eternal reward for those who do good in this life. And all Christians will be experience the fullness of joy in heaven. Luke 6:38 “give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.””
It is more about capacity for the experience of eternal joy.
ILL: Texas de Brazil. Everyone is full, some just a greater capacity for fullness.
APP: Giving, serving, sowing into God’s kingdom trains you soul to love what God loves. It increases your capacity for eternal joy, and even here and now increases the joy you experience. sow in the Spirit and reap eternal life.
T/S- Do good and do good now.

We Must Do Good Now v. 10a

EX: Temptation to read it as do good only when opportunity is clear. Do good before the end of the age. James 4:14 “yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” Can’t do evangelism, care for the sick, widowed, orphaned, etc.
ILL: Matt. 25. 10 virgins 5 prepared and 5 are not. 3 slaves, 5 talents, 2 talents, 1. take initiative in doing good. Matthew 25:34–41 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” Matthew 25:42–46 “For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.””
APP: What’s the point? Take initiative and be prepared for his coming, use you resources to produce more, care for the sick, poor, hurting, imprisoned. Seek after these opportunities to do good now. Our time is limited.
T/S- Who are we to do good to?

We Must Do Good to All v. 10b

Ex: We must do good to all. Jewish Christians were finding themselves superior to gentiles. This has to stop. There was a divide. (Peter doesn’t eat with gentiles in Gal. 2) Especially can be primarily “starting with”. But NOT limited to. List our specific areas
Ill: Tim Keller, “If you & your church were to disappear off the face of the earth tomorrow, would anyone in the community around you notice you were gone?"
FCF: How is this possible? I can’t do all the things!
Ex: Church planting and the church enables us to do good to the whole city and world.
The only work that absolutely must be done in the world is Christ’s work. And Christ’s work is accomplished through Christ’s body. The church—gathered in worship on Sunday and scattered through its members throughout the week—is able to do exponentially more than any of us alone. I can respond to Christ’s call in one or two ways, but I am a part of an organism and organization that can respond and serve in a million ways.
DeYoung, Kevin. Crazy Busy: A (Mercifully) Short Book about a (Really) Big Problem (p. 44). Crossway. Kindle Edition.
App: The call is for us to good to all especially the household of faith. But don’t forget point one. We do good together. The Gospel is good news to those in Christ. Not a guilt trip to do more and more. I was want to encourage you to keep going. Maybe you asking where is my place in the kingdom? Start right here. Follow your passions, and remember we do this together.
