Speaking To The Crowd

Warning about Hell
warning against Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit
warning about not saying no to the Holy Spirit when He convicts you
now a man in the crowd yells to Jesus and asks Him to arbitrate
V 13
While refusing to arbitrate. He starts to give a warning against greed.
V 14
Jesus is going to start to give a parable to the crowd to give a warning about greed
about your life
about how we spend our lives
this message is not about the sin of being wealthy
whether we are rich or poor the question is what do we do with what God has entrusted to us
Psalm 50:10 LSB
“For every beast of the forest is Mine, The cattle on a thousand hills.
Haggai 2:8 LSB
‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ declares Yahweh of hosts.
Job 41:11 LSB
“Who has given to Me that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is Mine.
we are stewards of what God has allowed us to have
God has given to some more than others
but whatever we have is still given to us by God
Jesus will commend us on being a faithful steward
it does not matter how much God has entrusted to us
what matters is, how did you use it?
read Luke 12 13-21

The Rich Fool

V 15
be careful against greed
be careful against covetousness
Jesus is speaking to the crowd but also speaking to this young man
this man wants more than he got for an inheritance
this man should be in mourning
possibly needs to think about his mother
but what is his biggest concern? money
Jesus has just got done talking about eternity
but he has no concern about being Godly
do you want to live?
do you want a life that is more abundant?
John 10:10 LSB
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
He comes that people may have life in Him that is meaningful, purposeful, joyful, and eternal
this life has nothing to do with riches
V 16
very productive more than other peoples land
God has made him rich, but he selfishly sees it as a
chance of fate
because it is me its productive
does not know why but I’ll take it
V 17 but he has a problem
what will I do with it all?
so he prays to himself
what is the best thing to do in this dilemma
self answers and gives the advice he is looking for
V 18
I will store up all this wealth, take it easy the rest of my life
V 19
this man does not know his scripture
turn to Ecclesiastes .
Solomon is giving his son and us advice on what he has learned as he observes life

Rich Toward God

V 21
The Bible Exposition Commentary (Chapter Eleven: Believer, Beware! (Luke 12)) Warren Wiersby
To be rich toward God means spiritual enrichment, not just personal enjoyment
storing up treasures in Heaven
a portfolio that includes missions, feeding the hungry
in the Old Testament the tax to the government and the tax to the temple was called a tithe
32% a year for the family
in the age of grace we have free will offerings
some have made the 10% a rule for their lives
Read 2 Corinthians 8 1-9
Chapter 9
Jesus warn against being greedy
Solomon warns about being greedy
if we were to stop there. there is ample warning to stop
God tells us not to
but we learn here in chapter 9 that there is blessing when we are generous
when we are generous God gives us more to be generous with
when we are not greedy we can sleep at night not worrying
do we want to be labeled as a fool by God?
or do we want to have Jesus say well done good and faithful servant?
you have used my money wisely
