God’s promise in Eden: The Seed of Satan vs. Seed of Woman (Lesson 20) 8/6/24
Introduction:
Introduction:
* At the fall of man, God put man out of the garden, but also made a promise and a prediction.
* He predicted that there would be a conflict between Satan’s see and Eve’s seed.
* He promised victory through the woman’s seed
Aim:
Aim:
* To give an in-depth exposition of the announcement of the conflict (Gen3:15)
* To clearly understand the relationship between (Gen3:15) with the unfolding history
15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
Outline:
Outline:
Terms to define
* Enmity “ill-will, hatred, strife”
*Implication is that there is that of bitter opposition, conflict, warfare
* The enmity is between the woman and Satan and her seed and his.
* Seed “ancestors, posterity or offspring”
* There are both Satan’s offspring and the woman’s
* There will be more on this, the identity of the two, when we get to the next lesson.
* Bruise “To crush, to trample down”
* The implication is that of lying-in-wait, and watching, in order to attack or assault.
* This too will be demonstrated clearly when we get to the next lesson too, so hold on.
* This word denotes harm, hurt, defeat and destruction
* Head “The superior position; signifying the object of power, control and authority.”
* Look up Mt28:18-20
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
* Look up Col1:18
18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.
* Look up Eph1:22
22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church,
* Head: Satan’s head (i.e. his power or authority) was to be crushed and destroyed.
* The blow on the ‘head’ denotes permanency
* It is destruction, it is fatal
* Maybe we should look at some of Satan’s power
* Look up Heb2:14-16
14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. 16 For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham.
What power did Satan have in these verses?
Death, slavery
* Look up 1Jn3:8
8 the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.
What is the purpose of the Son of God? In saying that, what does that mean?
To destroy the works of the devil, which mean the devil had power and works that Son of Man came to destroy.
* Look up (1Cor15:56)
* Heel “the lesser portion; that which is instrumental in ‘crushing the head’.”
* “His heel” this figure expresses the cost of redemption
* Look up (Act3:18)
18 “But the things which God announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled.
* “Heel” is to be bruised by destroying the head of the serpent.
* This is pre-eminently Christ’s “heel” will be clearly manifested in future lessons, but yet consider (Heb2:14-16, 1Jn3:8)
* Look up Rev1:17-18
17 When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, 18 and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.
What did “He” state here?
He is the first and last, the Living One, was dead
Alive forevermore with keys of death and Hades
The truth deduced.
The truth deduced.
* There will be a life and death struggle, war between “Satan’s seed” and the “Woman’s seed.”
* The “seed of woman” would, will, is ultimately victorious!
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
* The big takeaway we need to get from (Gen3:15) is that God promises redemption!
* This redemption is costly, a bitter bloody conflict is predicted by God Himself.
* The revelation of God’s word from this point on concerns the historical unfolding and fulfillment of this Promise made in Eden.
