Introduction:
Introduction:
This lesson will be a multi-part lesson, starting tonight in looking at the aspects of the conflict between the woman’s seed and Satan’s seed. This is a three part lesson, tonight, and, if possible the next two combined next week. I want to keep them separated for future reference for you and for the tests.
Aim:
Aim:
* To become aware of the viciousness of Satan and his intent to destroy the “seed of woman.”
* To see that there is a greater power than Satan and that God’s purpose will be providentially carried out.
Outline:
Outline:
Vicious: deliberately cruel or violent.
Satan’s vicious attack upon the woman and her seed is immediate!
* Satan’s aim - destruction of “the seed of woman.”
* Satan’s method - murder
Cain and Able (Gen4:1-8, 25)
1 Now the man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, “I have gotten a manchild with the help of the Lord.” 2 Again, she gave birth to his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the Lord of the fruit of the ground. 4 Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and for his offering; 5 but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell. 6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 “If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.” 8 Cain told Abel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.
Then
25 Adam had relations with his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him Seth, for, she said, “God has appointed me another offspring in place of Abel, for Cain killed him.”
* Satan was a murderer from the beginning (1Jn3:8-10, 12; Jn8:44) slays Able using Cain
8 the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.
10 By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother. 11 For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another; 12 not as Cain, who was of the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s were righteous.
* This act destroys the ‘righteous Abel’ and Satan is seemingly victorious.
* But God: “appointed another seed instead of Abel,’ Seth (v.25). It is “Seth” who is in genealogy that leads to Christ (Lk3:38)
* Note: The “seed of woman” survives and continues
Daughters of men and sons of God (Gen6:1-8, 12)
1 Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. 5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7 The Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
Then
12 God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.
* The wickedness of men has become very great due to the righteous “sons of God’ Marrying the unrighteous “daughters of men” and God determines to destroy all living things upon the earth.
* Note: See how throughly Satan accomplishes his task.
The universal flood comes upon the earth (Gen7:21-22)
* All flesh died that moved upon the earth
* But God, “Noah found favor in God (v.8) then (1Pt3:18-22; 2Pt2:4-5)
18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; 19 in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison, 20 who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water. 21 Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.
* Note again the seed of woman is preserved again
Barren womb and abundant promise (Gen17:15-19)
* The promise was made earlier (Gen12:1-3, 15:1ff)
* God reaffirms this promise and assures Sarah that she will bear a son, “Isaac.” though she had been barren and beyond years
* But God, to Sarah was born Isaac, God said (Gen17:19); and God did (Gen21:1-3)
* Note: what God promised, God was able to perform (Rom4:18-21, Heb11:11-12) and the seed of woman continues
18 In hope against hope he believed, so that he might become a father of many nations according to that which had been spoken, “So shall your descendants be.” 19 Without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah’s womb; 20 yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.
Famine and family (Gen45:55 - Gen47:1)
* Jacob and family are in midst of famine and were doomed to starvation (Gen42:1-2)
* Jacob and his son Judah, is the connecting link for the fulfillment of the promise (Mat1:2, Lk3:33-34)
* The death of this family (Judah) would mean Satan would have victory
* We can see that God made a way, a provision for them to fulfill God’s eternal purpose
* But God was with Joseph (Gen37:1-39:1)
* By the hand of Joseph (God’s providence) the seedline was sustained.
Conclusion
Conclusion
* Against all odds, beyond hope when all seems lost and Satan has victory, But God protects the seed of woman through the struggle and conflict
* In the next two lessons we will get more into this and look at more of the historical events as God fulfills His scheme of Redemption, His eternal purpose as the bible continues to unfold for us through the biblical, historical records.
