I. Well known miracle.
II. Similar things today.
III. Jesus the Good Shepherd cares.
IV. Straying sheep and security.
V. No perfect security in our world.
VI. Wrong places for comfort.
VII. Earlier Jesus sent out the twelve.
VIII. Jesus had compassion on them all.
IX. Read Mark 6:41–43 “And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish.”
X. Jesus miraculously supplied the people with bread and fish.
XI. Jesus met spiritual and physical needs.
XII. Similar to Friday morning Bible studies.
XIII. Jesus, our Good Shepherd and cross of Calvary.
XIV. Conclusion. Each time we receive Holy Communion, Jesus, the Good Shepherd, calls us by name and provides a rich banquet for us. This is not a lottery win or money from above or free money from the government. In Holy Communion, Jesus says, “This is my body. For you. This is my blood. For you.” Through faith in Jesus we are completely satisfied now and forever. Amen.
