Prayer for His People

Heart of Jesus

We open ch 17 last week introducing The Prayer of Jesus or the Lord’s Prayer

We discussed that the “lord’s prayer” in Matt 6 is INSTRUCTIVE and cannot be the Lord’s prayer

It really is a Prayer model for us.

as Jesus didn’t sin so he was teaching us in our sinfulness to pray

To stay connected to the Father

From beginning to end, this chapter 17 is the Lord’s Prayer; He prayed it.

It is pure prayer, a perfect prayer and it is for us

We can Pause

and Listen to the Heart in Jesus

A Prayer for God’s People

God’s Gift to Himself through His Self as

Jesus Christ the Son.

It is the Lord Jesus praying for us, praying for His people.

And because it is for us, it is an incomprehensible privilege to have this prayer written down in Scripture.

The eleven disciples heard Him pray these words.

But in the purposes of God, they were written down so all believers through all time could also hear.

This is a firsthand opportunity to Hear what’s on the Lord’s heart for His people.

This prayer was prayed deep into Thursday night

Friday early morning in the darkness as the disciples walked toward the garden of Gethsemane where our Lord would pray,

Where another famous prayer is prayed just hours after this one

in Luke 22:44 Jesus prayed and like great drops of blood fell to the ground

Jesus prays for his disciples

they would be tempted, and overcome that temptation,

He would soon be confronted and arrested by a crowd led by Judas;

and later on that Friday,

He would be crucified.

These are the last hours before the cross, and this is when He prays that prayer.

Jesus cares for US

He exhibits in His actions and words

to love God and Love others

He loves us so so much

He prays for US in His last hours

Hear His Heart

For US to know we have a Haven -

for us to know we are promised

Eternal Habitation oin Heaven

HEART HAVEN HABITATION

Haven of Jesus

Do you remember when you were kids

Getting ready to play

and they are started to pick their teams

Do you remember that feeling of not wanting to be picked last.

When the Captain picked you

there was a sense of relief — of belonging

Listen to these verses

John 17:6–10 (ESV)

6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.

7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you.

8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.

9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours.

10 All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them.

WE BELONG TO JESUS

You were picked by GOD to belong to Jesus

if you ever forget this

then remember it today

God picked you before you were born

God chose you

Jesus wanted you to know that you

We BELONG to HIS Team

FOREVER

and in this last section of our verses today

We are reminded that Jesus

came to earth for the Glory of God

and for the

Fulfillment of The Promises of God

that is what this Prayer is about

God name manifested

God promises fulfilled

Assurance to Us His Disciples that Heaven is our Home

Assurance that WE ARE HIS

Friends

we have heard that JESUS love us

most of us from the time we were in Kids church ourselves

it is TIME to know the Truth deeper

His love is beyond our comprehension

He Died for US

that is a depth of love that needs understanding

GOD’s understanding

John 17:6–9 ESV

WE OFTEN PRAY FOR THE WORLD TO BE BETTER

yET

WE HAVE A MODEL

that Jesus prayed for HIS DISCIPLES to

know that Jesus knows

You are more than this WORLD

You are HIS and will be His on EARTH as it is in Heaven

Love with no bounds

Love beyond This World

We must tell others this

Truth

Jesus died for you

so you would have

Joy

Unity

and Truth

Heaven of Jesus

Jesus gives us the

DESTINY OF DISCIPLES

John 17:11–13 ESV

11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

Here clarifies that we are CHOSEN

OUR Destiny is to be with HIM

We have a reminder of

OUR PROMISED

PROTECTION< PROVISION<PURPOSE

Let us look at our final verses today

John 17:14–19 (ESV)

14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.

16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.

19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.

Here Jesus gives us

Purpose and Position

Purpose is to GO

Position --- we go as a CHURCH - a family in Christ — WE MUST BE ONE in CHRIST

UNITY

CHRIST DIED SO THAT WE WOULD HAVE UNITY

do you see the CHALLENGE

CHRIST died for us to get along

to focus on HIM

not our ways not our denomination ---

OUR Baptist

Our Catholic

our morman

our religion

is NOT WHAT IS GOING TO SAVE US

JESUS SAVES

He DIED for us to have UNITY in HIM

He died for us

to have JOY

Love

and a TRUTH to Stand on

actually a TRUTH to LIVE

every aspect of our Life.

His has given us His WORD

Provides our Protection

So that we may go OUT into the WORLD

remember being picked for the TEAM ---- that feeling of relief

Remember wanting to do your best so that you would honor your team

Well Friends --- GOD picked you — Gave you to Jesus — and now you get the Privilege of

GOING

that is His Prayer for us

To Glorify God by Growing Others to FULL Knowledge of Him

John 17:16–19 ESV

16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.

Lets PRay

Father help us to Glorify You

To live in the JOY that we have in YOU

To know the SuperNatural power We have in you

To submit to the Power of Change

the power of santification we have

in YOU

Teach us to learn

and walk in the Unity we have we you and with others
